And keep in mind that not all vibration is a great thing. Meaning, that I got an old Epiphone Sheraton (the acoustic jumbo one) that the previous owner had pulled most of the bracing off the soundboard. Of course, it was terribly weakened, and boy did that thing vibrate!! Just a huge cacophony of sound flying everywhere and it was a mess. You want a certain, controlled vibration. More is not always better. Took the top off and rebraced it and it sounded much better. Good guitar to "experiment" on.....

Obviously this begs for The Question : Is it necessary that the braces are made of wood ?
Definitely not! Remember Garrison Guitars out of Canada? All of the internal bracing was a composite framework. They were well received at the time - but the company was eventually purchased by Gibson, who rather quickly converted the factory to a traditional construction format & started a line of budget-oriented instruments that didn’t last long.

I wonder if there would be as many naysayers' comments about this change in bracing if it had been announced by Guild instead of Martin?

We'd absolutely flay 'em. Look at how we reacted to the news they implemented mortise and tenon neck joints without telling us first.
Let alone asking for permission.

Absolutely unacceptable.
In the meantime, I might embrace my inner David Crosby and try drilling some holes in the braces of my D40.

Yamaha has their own torrefaction process (ARE). Maybe they’ll transfer that onto some Guilds.
I was wondering about Guild, not Yamaha : my question was more about who is in charge of Research and Development at Guild, if a same person remained after the ownership's change, if he/she has a team around and so on...
Does any one has information about that ?
