Hello folks, first time posting, but figure this is the spot to ask, so hopefully can get some answers. I've recently been given a Guild Archtop with a busted headstock. Being a luthier hobbyist, I made a new face to replace the unsalvageable original veneer, and reset and glued the broken parts as well as my talents allowed. Not a pro job, but it's going to hold strong. This is where it gets interesting. I wanted to get some history on this gem, so I looked inside to find a serial nmbr in the 1400's, and from their days in New York. It's a blonde x-175, with 2 pickups, 2 control knobs, and the one piece Guild headstock logo. All these things are leading me to believe I've been given a ver nice piece of Guild history. Anyone have any more info to help me solve this mystery? Apologies for lack of pics and exact serial nmbr. I am currently at work, so will post those this evening. Thanks for any and all input...

Welcome! That is a nice freebie. It's great that you've restored it to playable condition, play it often! Looking forward to pix.

WELCOME TO LTG and congrats on a super freebie!
I took on a broken headstock repair on my 12 string and it was a great learning experience for this luthier-wannabe.
This might be an interesting piece to discuss with Hans Moust, the author of our Guild bible. He's a member here so he might pick up on this thread, or you could send him a PM.

Either way, welcome aboard, :friendly_wink:

Welcome! What a great gift, can't wait to see the pics. If you post the exact serial #, Hans (who wrote the book on Guilds, something you might want to pick up) will be able to tell much about this first year Guild.
now, the more important question, how does it play and sound?

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. Got home from work, and went straight to the guitar. The serial nmbr is 1437, and has the NY address on the interior sticker, along with model x-175. It's still hard to believe that this was found busted in a dumpster in SF and has passed through at least two other guitarists hands before landing in mine. It bewilders me that neither of these guysn bothered to see what the had. Even if nit's not as rare as I am hoping, it seems a shame to throw an instrument in the trash. Where's the one in that?… Pics coming as soon as m other laptop is back from the shop...
