Thanks for posting that, dread.

I'm glad those guys are hanging in there. I tried to stop to see the plant a few summers ago when we were driving through Kalamazoo from a vacation in Detroit, but I could not find it. It's in a confusing part of town, the streets, that is, and several local folk I asked did not know where the old Gibson factory was.

I'm pretty sure that's the same Jim Delaroo that worked at Guild for a while. I believe he went from Gibson, to Guild, then back to Gibson.

I've heard that those are simply great guitars....despite their reasonable cost.... :) Steffan

Wasn't Jim Duerloo (or whatever the spelling) in Hans' book as one of the Guild guys?

After high school, one of my buddies helped run his dad's tool & die shop. He was a supplier of some parts for the Les Paul. One day the buyer from Gibson came in and gave him a Les Paul...just gave it to him.

Of course, the most valued instruments came from Kalamazoo when it was the "Gibson Mandolin Co." Mid-1920's Lloyd Loar mandolins are the Holy Grail of mandos, the F-5's signed by Lloyd go for about 250K

Or, have you ever priced a vintage Gibson Mastertone Banjo? They're not exactly givin' those away either.

Yep, Duerloo. My bad on the spelling.

Yes, He was at Gibson with Ted McCarty, he's mentioned in the book: "Gibson Guitars, Ted McCarty's Golden Era", them went to Guild with Alfred Dronge (there's an old photo of the both of them in my 2007 Guild catalog) then he went back to Gibson.

Great video, thanks for posting. I live about 80 miles from the factory. Now that gives me just a few ideas... My only problem might be "so many guitars, so little time"
