Damn, a Silvertone archtop for $1054. Wonder if it will sell. Had one of those once.

I turned down a Harmony "Made in America" '56 archtop for $350 a year ago and wish I hadn't—it was a great-sounding and playing guitar. Some of these older Sears-Roebuck inexpensive guitars us boomers grew up on, as you say, weren't all bad.

Yeah,I figured that even if you knew about them, they might be news to some of our other guests and members.
I always liked that Chris Isaak named an album "Silvertone". I like Chris Isaak. "Wicked Games" :D

Can anyone post pics of the small Guilds Two Corgis mentioned?

Thanks, Wontox

Sure, my wife gave me this 1957 F20 for Christmas about 6 years ago. It's my all time keep for life guitar.

"F-20 Troubador" is the official model, introduced in '56 with solid spruce top, maple back & sides. '59 or so the specs changed to solid mahogany back & sides. "Economy M20s are the same size with solid mahogany, top, back & sides. Significantly smaller than LG's I've played.

Mine has a flat maple laminate back. Fun little guitar, loud & articulate, my daily player. Skinny little neck with a 1 5/8 fretboard, feels a bit like a violin neck. Should you run across a Martin 00 15 it's close to F20 size, Martin is maybe 3% - 5% bigger & won't fit in an F20 case.

For perspective; 1st pic is the F20 sitting atop a Dreadnaught case, 2nd pic next to a D25 dreadnaught.

He was so hot that night, the guitar was smokin' in his hands.

Maybe there's a lit butt stuck in the headstock strings a la Frank Zappa. I can almost make out several musical notes in the smoke. Note what APPEARS to be the head of an electric bass in the lower corner....curious shadows in the glass doors in the background—very enigmatic.

I still have a burn mark in that headstock of my '72 P-Bass from where one of my sh!t-for-brains friends had stuck a lit butt. I guess it qualifies as mojo by now, along with all the other "beauty marks" from the last 36 years or so.

Jeff, maybe you need Jennifer Love Hewitt to come ghost whisper that scene.

Excellent Guild and story behind, BTW, that was a very thoughtful gift. I like the term "guitar for life"... I think many here know exactly what you mean.
