Sorry if someone already posted this but Mark Knopfler's '61 Starfire III sold for 40,320 British pounds at auction. That's $50,850.
Did anyone here buy it? : )

While I'm sure it's immaculately set up, I'm not inclined to pay an 'artist premium' for an instrument they're not really associated with. Well, maybe BB King's or Les Paul's Broadcaster, but that's about it.

That, with block and triangle inlays, is what I wanted to get from New Hartford.
Now I have to dyi if I want one. <shrug>

These sales make me wonder what the Dave Davies or Jerry Garcia Starfires would go for.
Yeah we were debating why people would pay these prices, and it's definitely not for the guitar itself. No question Knopfler's provenance plays into it, but I think the charity aspect is probably even more a factor (as we were talking about there).

ANyway, that greenie is sure a beauty.

Yeah, I'm a huge Knopfler fan and I think this is a poor investment at that price.

I would buy it, but, I would have to check if they were real Rowe Dearmonds , and not some modern version 😂
