Now off to the doctors office! :( That bug knocked me down harder and longer than expected and I need to be on the plane Sunday headed for the old continent for the Holidays, so I'll just keep some antibiotics under my sleeve just in case, but hopefully I won't need them.... (hate taking meds)

Which bit of the 'old continent' are you about to infect :?: Do I need to alert the authorities about incoming germs  We have enough of our own swine flu :!:

That's a beauty, Pascal. Congrats, and I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Pass a "bonjours" to the family for us.

Ok Blues....here I go again, sounding like an idiot, but being 'mature' enough not to care...If you have the flu or a cold...this is what I'd do, and it works really well...Bake two large onions in a pan, do not peel them. the medicinal part is also what gets into the air and makes your eyes water. Leaving the skin on keeps it from escaping. Bake in a fairly hot oven, around 375 or so till they are soft, they might be charred but then just peel and eat, you can add a bit of honey or spice if you want but they are actually pretty sweet...the following day you will likely pass some onion gas, be discreet, and outside if possible. The following day cold or flu breaks up...its almost always works, 3 days...seriously even if its been hanging on for weeks...If necessary repeat after 3 days, I've never had to do that....but it really does work, guaranteed or double your money back...Steffan
I've also used the microwave for a couple of minutes then turn the onion over and do the same....but I prefer the baked way... they both work...

You know what they say the flu lasts for seven days but a cold only lasts for a week. Seriously though, as you say, a lot of "volatile oils" are known to have therapeutic properties. Didn't know about onions but they're same family as garlic so it makes sense. I use pickled ginger (gari) and wasabi (horsedradish) which I discovered after the first time I had sushi. Had a cold coming on but it stopped it dead in its tracks overnight. Also chili peppers (capsaicin) are good for the mucous membranes. Put some hot pepper oil in your chicken soup.
Do not confuse these volatile oils with ones more suitable for fretboard conditioning unless you want your guitar to smell good enough to eat. Hmmm...source of strange case odors possibly?

First off let me thank everyone again for the very appreciated congrats, get-well-wishes, safe trip, and happy Holidays posts that are always such a pleasure to read.

Well, I left this thread a couple days ago on my way to the doctor's office, and it turns out,
going to see him was my best possible move..... As he put it: "Had you waited some more, you would have ended up at the hospital" and he proceeded to scribble a few lines of hieroglyphs on a prescription only a pharmacist can translate in English (the aforementioned antibiotics), wished me a safe trip and assured me I will fully enjoy my Holidays in an "healthy" mode.

So I started popping the pills that same evening, and the following morning went through motions and feelings some might refer to as "pure hell".
It felt as if my blood had come to a boil, bathing in a cold sweat from head to toes, big cold drops of sweat running down my forehead more profusely than if I had been serving for a fifth set tie-breaker, and staring at the ceiling with hopes of a quick and painless death!!!
I guess the antibiotics had gone to work already, doing all they could to kick that crappy bug out of my system and doing it well I must add, judging by how I feel this morning (completely "cleared up" temperature back down to 97 and change), just a day later.

As a side note, Steffan I don't think you're an idiot, and I believe your onions recipe makes a lot of sense (and hey, I might even try it without a cold/flu since I like onions  ) but with a 2 weeks Holiday vacation project resting on an 8 hour flight in 3 days now I was not about to experiment and preferred relying on Mr Alexander Fleming's proven track record on the subject if you catch my drift....

So it seems my little "adventure" is headed towards a happy ending to my greatest relief and I will start helping my wife pack the suitcases (she packs the clothes, I, the electronics :D ).

Thanks again to all of you!!!!

Thanks Blues...I've learned over time to not argue with what works....I discovered the onion thing by accident, and occasionally do it just because..I'd be willing to bet my F512 that if people would do that every month, they'd come down with a severe case of better health... Simple works best sometimes. Ive studied and worked with many forms of healing techniques, and have studied with some of the best. So I have a pretty good baseline, 38 years, to recognize a good thing working..and aside from my accident injuries I have no health issues,. Have a great trip, hope we meet and play together sometime..Steffan
