Interesting the stop tail placement on that guitar magazine is closer to the bridge than the two in his post #131 picture, and also closer than the pic posted by Guild.
I wonder what the intention was of lowering the stop tail for the reissue. Note that the nature boy is closer to the bridge, too, in that post #131 pic.
Is this supposed to be a replica of the first one he bought as a kid, or another one of his S-100's? Or is it a "reimagining" of an S-100.

Probably just another instance of current owners really not caring about every little traditional detail.

Thanks @casey2048 Kind of like defining a word with the same word for me, but now I have a reference to look into ;)

Remember, I said I am old...on another board I am having a...uh...discussion regarding "Beatles vs Kinks," where I say I lost
the Kinks after their LP Kinda Kinks...;)

Well, they were founded 40 years ago and their biggest hits were 30 years ago. :)

I had to double check that math. 1994 (Superunknown) was indeed just shy of 30 years ago. Damn.

Listening to the clips of him playing that Guild has been posting on Instagram, I hear mostly pedals and amp. Yes, I know the pickups do have an impact on the final sound and I’m sure it’s his signature sound (not my band at all), but they give me no clue as to how the pickups actually sound.

Agree. If anything, the video with RJ Ronquillo (?) was a better demo.

Makes sense. That’s how RJ makes rent. They probably just gave Kim the guitar and said, have fun.

I, know... I can't let it go...

I would buy one just to have the only non-magazine review out there and it would be a cool "comeback" article, but at $7k I can't see it as anything but a guaranteed bad investment.

Also, does that bridge look weirdly off-center to anyone else? Like all the saddles are mashed to the left

It's like someone designed the base plate without looking at an original one ad just centered all the string paths in the center without thinking about how the mechanisms need space. Actually I don't think they're centered... I think they're backwards! There's more space on the treble side when there should be more space on the bass side.

Here's a '79 S300 Mueller to compare:

Edit: Here's an S60 Mueller:

Soundgarden’s legacy is not the same as Nirvana and neither is their sound or their songs. Two fairly different bands that happened to form out of the same time and place, IMO. I never felt a deep connection with their music personally but I’m sure there are many people out there from my generation (X) who would call them a desert island band or something like that. And not that these lists mean anything much, but Rolling Stone had him at 100 on the best guitarists of all time list.

Let the smoke clear and see what happens. Maybe in a year or so we will be able to find one for +/-$4k?

In my circle of friends, no one is into Soundgarden, and the fans I have found, are more blue-collar type of folks. I'm not sure there are a lot of Kim fans out there willing to spend $7k on this guitar, but maybe I'm wrong?

I think you're right about them being backwards!! And what about those pastry cutter thumbscrews?

if you found a chink in the armor of this guitar already, you are a God! That would be freaking incredible! I hope not, but I also hope so! lol

Since all the sites say pre-order, I can only hope that it was a prototype that's since been through at least one more design iteration.
