I'd get it fixed. That is a very fine price, sir!

You did better than good in my opinion. The D40 is a very sweet guitar and in the shape you mention, well worth the money...

Yes, get the bridge re-glued.
I just had a D55 re-glued for $50.00.
Well worth it.
You got a great price on a great guitar.

once reglued and clamped , it should never come up again , right ?
No, it shouldn't, as long as you keep the heat and humidity in check.

Dead, you gone good. Congrats.

FWIW, my luthier has told me that he prefers not to glue/clamp a lifted bridge. He thinks it's best to remove it so that the condition of the bridge and the underpinnings can be evaluated before putting it back on.

bikerdoc, for your information this was not a auction guitar that you bid on from flea bay , it was a private sale.

When I had my D55 re-glued, my luthier said that if the gap went all the way to the pins, the guitar should have the bridge removed and then re-glued.
Mine wasn't that bad, so it just got a shot of glue and a clamp.
So far, so good.
