Maybe there is hope for this next generation! All they have to do is show some desire and willingness to spend a bit of time on it and I'll do anything necessary to feed that interest.

And Al, You're right, there is a buzz out there with the young kids who are 'exposed' to live, accessable music. Playing at my daughters school concert recently, I found myself in the classroom pretty often just rehersing the song with the kids.
Afterwards, quite a few kids expressed an interest to learn to play the guitar. They loved the fact that songs they knew could be played before them for the asking ( I brought along my songbook
). No 'lectricity needed!
We had quite a few after school sing-alongs, and even my daughterb was not embarassed. It was fun.
Early exposure to playing, and a personal appreciation of music, is a big one to getting kids to play I think. Showing them it CAN be done, and that with persistence, Its not so hard at all.
Guitars in the classroom is a great thing for getting kids 'in touch' with music. Playing, singing, watching.....enjoying.
This next school year, I may be doing a regular music jam in the classroom. Should be fun for us all.
