New song I'm working on with a working title of "Extraordinary"

I belive the chord would be C6, but it's played in a drop tuning I've taken to lately: CFCFAD.

Happy new year everyone!

B natural. The riff that Jack Casady teaches for 99 Year Blues starts there and I tend to play it as a quick check to see how badly out of tune my bass is, whether I'm happy with the amp settings and to see how the left hand is working.

Not really a chord, but when I picked up the bass this morning, the first note was the F# slide up to C# at the beginning of the Deads` "Estimated Prophet".. Full disclosure, It was on the Alembic, not one of the Guilds. :)

I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of your Alembic!

Hey Zulu, Never had much luck posting photos here, but it`s identical to this one, currently on ebay, except mine is an 85. Not their top of line for sure, but an amazing bass, none the less. Best neck I`ve ever played. Sorry for the veer folks.......

Sweeeeet!
Thanks. An Alembic bass (and/or guitar) is on my "someday" wish list. I've played a few. Amazing instruments. When I was living in Santa Rosa in the '80s I had a buddy who worked for Alembic.

Fm!

I'm working up Arthur Brown's Fire for the band.

(And it's presenting quite the challenge as there's no guitar or bass in the song and we don't have a keys in the band!)

First thing I did was tune. Next was a fat Cowboy G chord.
This was last night at band practice.
It was the first chance that I had to pick up a guitar. Spent the Holiday in Wendover Nevada with no guitar. :(

It was a "D" for me. The grand kids were visiting from Texas and after 3 days the two oldest (12, 14) put down their phones and both expressed an interest in my guitars. (They've been pretty blase before) We did some single note "Twinkle, Twinkle" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb", "Ode to Joy" and I showed them a few chords: D, C, G. We had a fun couple of hours and then did it again that evening.
Their dad has a playable entry level guitar, so I'll be curious to hear if anything continues now that they are back home. I've got 5 adult (I use that term loosely :? ) children - step children and have never been able to generate any interest in guitar or playing any other musical instruments. Maybe there is hope for this next generation! All they have to do is show some desire and willingness to spend a bit of time on it and I'll do anything necessary to feed that interest.

8) 8) :D
As Southern Guild might say, Good on ya, mate!
Another lesson might be : How it's possible to make music without any dependance on 'lectricity or pre-programmed gadgets. It could become a whole new revolution all over again! :D

And Al, You're right, there is a buzz out there with the young kids who are 'exposed' to live, accessable music. Playing at my daughters school concert recently, I found myself in the classroom pretty often just rehersing the song with the kids.
Afterwards, quite a few kids expressed an interest to learn to play the guitar. They loved the fact that songs they knew could be played before them for the asking ( I brought along my songbook  ). No 'lectricity needed!
We had quite a few after school sing-alongs, and even my daughterb was not embarassed. It was fun.
Early exposure to playing, and a personal appreciation of music, is a big one to getting kids to play I think. Showing them it CAN be done, and that with persistence, Its not so hard at all.
Guitars in the classroom is a great thing for getting kids 'in touch' with music. Playing, singing, watching.....enjoying.
This next school year, I may be doing a regular music jam in the classroom. Should be fun for us all.

Tough job, and I'm glad someone else is willing to do it.
In the meantime you might want to look over here for some lyrics that show just how little has really changed since 1967.
THe song's pretty easy to play too, once ya get the bass line memorized. It's singin' over it that's tricky.
Yeah I posted it in another thread today too, but it's just that good. Brought a tear to my eye.

Reckon it would be fun to play too! Thanks al.
....and the beat goes on!
Lessee....I'm dredging up an old muddy memory here but I do believe it's only a C7 and an Fmaj. Start there and you can pretty much figure out the bass line by ear.
In fact, thinking about it reminded me that you can pull a very sneaky segue into Zeppelin's "How Many More Times" from that tune.... Is nothing sacred?

Does the Em I played in one of my own tunes at about 11:20 on New Year's Eve count?
After all, it was already 2013 somewhere on the planet...
Otherwise I'm all hotted up for a C7 tonight, while the Beat Goes On.... :D
