I feel very sorry Dread, and certainly understand your desire to sue that slime, after this kind of deceit.
I know the feeling as it happened to my wife few years back: She got hired at a teacher job fair, and the following week (with only a couple of weeks before the start of the school year) received an e-mail "we're sorry but we decided to go another route with the position offered to you".
Just as they would have held you accountable for performing your job (had you had a chance to start it), they should be held accountable for offering a job and not fulfilling their part of the deal.
It's bad enough when you're told after 14 years in excellent standing with a company that your job is moving away (my situation now), but being told after an interview "you have a job" and the following week "Now you don't" should be punishable by law. There should be accountability in the hiring process, but it might not come until someone kills himself or herself as a result of such irresponsible action, and the relatives sue the hell out of the company responsible for the deceit.
That they can bully you and your livelihood around as you move chips on a board game is nothing but contemptible.
Best of luck to you in your "back-on-the-job-market" situation....
