As rough as it is, it sounded pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7b16bVd ... re=related
I'm guessing that was the best part of 30 years ago. I looked at some of his newer videos and the guitar was no where no be found.

Made Willie's look like it is in pristine condition. I think he forgot the first rule of being a luthier, do not drink adult beverages when working on your guitar.

That was genius! Love the action adjustment technique.

Oh, & what's this "vinyl" stuff you are talking about?

I remember seeing photos of that guitar back in the day. It did sound good, probably a case of reinventing the wheel. If JJ made a bad album, I've never heard it.

That's a great looking setup, Doc. Is it yours?
*Joe is impressed!

Not mine but I have one just like it. Mine doesn't have the wood around the controls and the tonearm is silver.

The guy I bought it from had sold it previously, and it was damaged in shipping. The insurance paid to have it totally rebuilt by the manufacturer. When I bought it, he was reluctant to ship again, so we met at a Holiday Inn halfway. A concerned citizen turned us in when he saw the cash being exchanged in the parking lot. John E. Law was pretty decent about the whole thing, but felt it his duty to examine the turntable which at that point was in the back seat of my car. The thing weighs 45 pounds and when he tried to lift it his suspicions were aroused. We showed him the owners manual confirming that it did in fact weigh that much. He just shook his head and wished us a nice day. Another real life adventure in audiophilia.

Very nice and yes, quite pricey.
It seems that I'm still packing around some of my old vinyl and I have an occasional desire to spin a few for old times' sake.
I'll probably just revive my old table, though.

Thanks for the intro to SOTA. Seems to be a most excellent choice.

Turntables are a hot commodity these days. I had accumulated 2 ARs, 2 Pioneers and a Dual. Sold all of them to buy the SOTA. If you can't get yours running look for an old AR. Parts are plentiful, they're easy to work on and sound good.

Ahhh, I've seen those things before. Didn't expect you guys to be into hip-hop & all that "scratching" or whatever they call it.

Seriously though, that looks like a beautiful piece of kit. I still have a turntable or two but they are not of the best standard - they don't seem to match up too well with the rest of my stereo system. I should invest in something better as I have a few albums & lots of singles which I just can't get on any other media. I played some of this stuff to my 15 year old god-daughter & she was enthralled by both the technology & the music!
