When I've heard "Free Bird" for the 3rd time in a week on classic regulated repeat radio, I go home and listen to Yoko.
It's like Alka Seltzer for the mind.

Funny, Alka Seltzer is my choice of pain relief.

Couldn't find a clip of Yoko playing a JF30 so I went with my old favourite Bill Janovitz & Buffalo Tom. This was from the early/mid 90s but he seems to be using the same guitar 20+ years later.

I have been using mu JF30-12 as a 6 string lately & it sounds great. Balanced, clear, full & doesn't give up when you hit the strings harder.

Which makes me want to run a poll:

Is not liking Yoko
  1. A political stance
  2. A religious stance
  3. Both
  4. An uninformed and erroneous opinion

No moderators were harmed by this post although perhaps one should have been ;-)

5. Elephants were harmed, during the recording of this song......:cower::biggrin-new:

For fun I like to think of what movie would fit a particular song. An alternative soundtrack, if you will. This song belongs in Sean Connery's epic (I can't even type this without laughing) science fantasy film, "Zardoz".

Not liking her means I have musical taste. Which Yoko has never made...music...or listenable music.

The Gun is good. The p-enis is evil. Sean as a futuristic apocalyptic bounty hunter in an orange diaper is priceless. The large flying head spitting out guns. Wow. Sean that was a great career move. Zardoz...James Zardoz.

NO it just means you don't like her music and stopped giving it a chance after hearing stuff you didn't like.***
YOU are the reason classic rock radio survives.
To quote "Over Under Sideways Down":
"When will they learn?"
*** OK, I was about to allow that maybe you did give it several chances, but anybody open-minded enough to have done that wouldn't then go on to say that disliking her was evidence of their own good musical taste.
Or are you just trying to stir up a little action on a slow news day?
OK, been there, done that.

When you've done Bond like he did you can kick back and have some fun.
BTW Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Connery and actually the closest one to Fleming's original character.

My guess is Sean Connery did "Zardoz" in an attempt to break free of being type cast. I'd post a picture of him in Zardoz, but some images you just can't "un-see" (hahaha). I never read any of Flemming's books, but I do like Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond.

Back to guitars, I enjoyed the video Zelja posted. Does anyone else have some solid examples of JF30 tone? I found the following, is this pretty indicative of the JF30 sound?

Not sure if "YOU" enjoy the sound of cats being strangled but I sure don't. You don't have to punch me in the face twice for me to know it hurts. I learned after the first time. And calling what she does music is an insult to people who make music. I can't stand classic rock stations and really loath the Ken and Barbie Country stations. I have most of the lp's and cd's of the artist I like and when I'm in the mood I put them on. I hate when people (radio) force me to listen to what I don't want to hear. If I do have the radio on its usually XM and its the Dead Channel.

Right now on Classic Rock radio is Stairway and Freebird then it repeats - no thanks. Love Zep and Skynyrd but give these songs a rest their tired.

If all you ever heard was the cat being strangled and then stopped listening to cats, you never got to hear one purr.

Fair enough it was a low blow and admittedly intentionally provocative.

See, the difference in our mind sets is that I intentionally seek out new material on my drive time.
I've been listing to a PBS 24/7 jazz station for about the last 10 years, and even started giving classical about 10-15% of the listening time, and even started giving the "I love the '80's" station and the still-got-a-pulse alternative rock station another 10% or so between 'em.

We're in violent agreement there.
Don't forget "Hotel California"

I have no problem with new music, and don't just listen to The Beatles and Stones. But with the way the world is today I do not have to put the radio on find new music. So you tell me you actually like side 2 of Live Peace In Toronto or any of her other recordings?

Lemme make sure to say I was pushing buttons a little and trusted you were playing along to a degree with a bit of the spirit of outrageous humor yourself
To clarify the specific point of radio, I WANT to be surprised by something that wasn't pre-selected by some "if you liked this then you'll like this" algorithm like Spotify, although I would use that occasionally if I cared to make the tech investment.
Besides getting tired of the same old formulaic stuff whether it's classic rock or not, I wanted to experience that thrill of hearing something that lights me up for the first time, just like listening to the AM radio as a kid.
And yeah there was the problem of stuff getting overplayed back then, too, but eventually new stuff would always come along.
The's the problem with programmed classic rock, there IS no new stuff although at least one station out here does have a new music Tuesday program.
Sitting through the "meh" stuff was worth the occasional new gem (or waiting for a favorite.)
Like hearing "Summer In The City" and "For What It's Worth" and later on "Instant Karma" and "Whole Lotta Love" and "Immigrant Song" for the very first time because they'd just been released.
After about 20 years there was very little new under the sun, though.
Except in jazz.
After another 20 years I decided to try to expand my horizons by ONLY listening to jazz at drive time whether I liked the current selection or not.
And started hearing the roots of stuff that had been picked up by some of my favorite '60's rock bands.
Even realized King Crimson had "borrowed" from Rachmaninoff.
Never realized some of those classical guys actually rocked pretty hard.
So hey I've got new realms to explore, life's good.
:friendly_wink:
So you tell me you actually like side 2 of Live Peace In Toronto or any of her other recordings?
Honestly, not my favorite work of hers, need to be in a very specific mood to want to put it on.***
But yes there are 3 pieces of hers that I would not want to live without and to that end I own the Ono Box set:
"Walking On Thin Ice" was actually the first one I KNEW I HAD to own, and granted John's guitar work on that was a large part of it.
The John I loved was back.
After that, "Kiss Kiss Kiss".
If you didn't like "WarzZone" you probably wouldn't like "Kisskisskiss", and "Warzone" 's middlin' ok to me, but I'd listen to it over "Free Bird" every time.

*** I actually own a lot of music in the category, now.
Most of the "free jazz", and things like The Wall.
I could listen to "Astronomy Domine" and "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" just about any time but only ever want to hear "Careful With That Axe" if I'm in the mood for it.
(yeah I know that's UmmaGumma but it's a betterexample of Floyd I really like)
And I can't stomach "I Know It's Only Rock'n'Roll" but I love "Shattered" and hate "Brown Sugar" but love "Can't you Hear Me Knockin'".
Anyway, just trying to give some insight into what drives my listening habits these days.

For some reason reminds me of another one of my favorites:

I love Connery and just realized that although Wiki has a "Zardoz" page, it's glaringly absent from the Sean Connery page. LOL!
It wouldn't surprise me if there was a large element of desiring to play against the Bond image millstone in that choice, as he was sick to death of the character after the first 5 movies.
In fact for a couple of years (Dr. No released in '62, From Russia With Love in '63, Goldfinger in '64) he was bigger than the Beatles and even remained so in some demographics, afterwards.
I had the Mattel James Bond Briefcase as a kid, around '65, and a slot car model of the Aston Martin in '68.
I'd collected and read all the Bond novels between 4th and 6th grade, I used to scan the shelves of second-hand stores for 'em.

Based on my intimate experience jamming with my best buddy who has a first year JF30-12 I'd say that's a nice one, its best qualities brought out by a decent player and mic.
Especially that little 2-chord Amin7 vamp at about 1:50, that's a little vamp my buddy likes to play including more open chords up and down the neck, and yes the box keeps up a nice sustain underneath it all if you have the right technique.
In fact I hate to say it but that one actually sounds a little ballsier than I remember my buddy's being, as he went to silk and steels and down a whole step after suffering a bridge lift a couple of years in.
1-13/16 nut and pretty flat board takes a bit of adjusting for me but enables better ability to leave those open strings unmuted when playing open chords like that, or even fingerpicking, for that matter..

Dig Belew. Saw him twice with what Fripp was calling King Crimson at that moment back in the 80's.

The Stones are without a doubt the biggest most money making garage band that ever was. I have never heard live stuff of theirs that is any good. Seen them once. I won't ever again. Love Sticky Fingers, Exile is good but the most over rated album ever. It is not the Holy Grail of Rock. The Stones were done my Goats Head Soup. I do really like Some Girls. It was so F U to music.
