Ha! I recorded this appearance from the TV onto tape from the original Austin City Limits airing in ‘82. The whole set is superb & I still have that cassette tape! He was an extremely gifted guitarist, and a talented songwriter as well. His fingerpicking duet recordings with Chet Atkins are still favorites that I listen to regularly. Great stuff!

He's a monster player and just fun to watch.

And he's rockin' a Peavey T60!
I also liked his acting. Just a really funny and entertaining dude. So natural in front of audience or camera.

I remember seeing him on Hee-Haw once and he was also good as Burt Reynold's sidekick on both Smokey and the Bandit movies. He also wrote and performed "Eastbound and Down" the song played when the truck full of Coors was heading back East.
"And then I listened to the video......DUH!"

Ah, the old memory banks are kicking in. Actually, I recorded that set off the PBS radio simulcast, so it went directly to my amp & then into the Kenwood recorder. Started thinking about it, and I don’t recall having any TV audio outputs back then!

Looked it up.........Jerry passed on Sept. 01, 2008 at 71 years young. I'd like to think that he's playin'🙏 and making everyone laugh.
Had a feeling somebody would take it that way, but I was actually referring to the Gretsch in his hands with the missing bridge pickup, and king-sized 'mounting ring' for the neck pickup.

Those Peavey T60 guitars were heavy as I remember. A friend had bought the bass version of that series, I can't remember the model but yeah they were heavy.

Allegedly the ones painted in solid colors were made of a lighter wood, but the natural finish ones could make a 70's LPC feel light.
