I wonder if these pencils have some improvisational writing qualities?

I prefer mechanical pencils and have an assortment. This is the one that lives between the function and number rows of my mechanical keyboard. It sees 90%+ of all my hand writing time. It is machined from a solid rod of Stainless Steel, they make them in Copper, Bronze, or Titanium as well. I generally prefer 0.5mm lead, but went with 0.7mm so my aging eyes can see it better :p

I like mechanical pencils and use one when I travel. Mine’s a Porsche.

You squeeze it together (end to end) to advance the “lead” and the outside is made from the same techflex used in F1 hoses (or so the marketing said in the early ‘00s when I bought it).

Nice mechanical pencils, guys. I've used lots of pens over the years, but I never cared much for the mechanical pencils that accompanied them.

My latest go-to is a space pen that my son gave me last year for my birthday:

Pretty knife!

Thanks, My grandfather carried a knife like it for all of the time I knew him, I unfortunately broke the blade in the mid 90s and it was lost to time. I met a knife maker that had some of the material, so I had him make me a very small fixed blade 15 or so years ago. Then knowing that the handle material is called 'Candy Stripe', I found some limited edition Case knifes and bought the 'gunstock' model for myself and the smaller one for my wife.

I'm also a mechanical pencil fan. These are probably the most run-of-the-mill mechanical pencils, but I love them, especially the .07 and .09. My wife uses them too and uses them for her design drawings.

My son, however, uses these crazy expensive precision German pencils that look like they were made in the future.

Yeah, the Pentels are awesome, jp. They're cheap and they work. I don't use them much, but I like them when I do.

P205 were my staple in the 80s and 90s (along with the Rapid-o-matic). I worked as a PCB (electrical) draftsman and designer in the mid/late 80s. My backup to the stainless one is this Japanese model that spins the lead every time you release pressure. I also have some wood ones like in this link too. https://www.jetpens.com/Pilot-S20-Drafting-Pencil-0.5-mm-Mahogany/pd/32748

My pencils are the .5mm mechanical variety in my multi-pens:

This is a quick assortment found in desk pencil holder, brief bag, and notebooks. There are many, many more at home.

I'm hoping that the lack of uniformity in the position of the three ink colors (blue, black, red) and pencil will drive those of you with OCD a little nuts.

That's a very, very dangerous place for people with a pen/pencil "problem".

I went down the multi-pen rabbit hole with them and when I came back I had way too many.

My wife has been a multi-pen fan since High School... her obsession with pens came from her father being an xray tech for an Orthopedic surgeon group. He'd bring the family new pens home weekly :D

My dad had several nice sets of Cross pens and pencils from his employer. Nice works of machinery, but they're too thin to hold comfortably.
For some. The skinniness is why I like them. For me, they're the most comfortable pens ever invented. Hate grappling with a fat pen. And the clip never weakens! Don't you hate that?

But you'll be glad to know they also have several with thick shafts — ball points, gels, fountain pens. Something for everyone.

A pencil can be shipped to this guy and he will sharpen it for you. Or buy one if his for $100 I can’t tell if this is a joke or for real.
Oh my goodness! The book is real, on Amazon, "How to Sharpen Pencils" by David Rees, and it is 224 pages long!

I guess I'll continue to sharpen pencils the best I can, regardless of how far below standards my efforts may be. Perhaps mankind will forgive me.
