I've never even touched an electric guitar, but I've gotten the itch to do some Pop/Light Rock stuff. GC had a Nightbird I (incorrectly listed as a II) that I couldn't resist, so the deed is done, the order placed. If I've bought the wrong guitar, somebody please warn me quick, and I'll panic. Anyhow, it'll be here in a few days, and I'll be destroying once-loved tunes in short order. Here's their pic. Only one I've got until it gets here.

Sweet! Great guitar congrats! Looks to be a few extra switches near the bridge, but no big deal. I'll be interested to know what the switches do, also the serial number/date.

The Nightbird I has less bling than the II, but is quite a bit more rare. I believe the Nightbirdpages website states @150 total made. Maybe Hans can confirm.

I bet you'll love it. Do you have an amp?

The salesman told me the switches match everything else, and look stock. My guess is they were added, and do something with the coils. Guess I'll find out. Supposedly the guitar doesn't have a mark, swirl or rash on it. Looks pristine. I'll find out about that, too. My amp is an old Carlsbro Sherwood acoustic. It's pretty powerful, with a smooth sound, but I'll probably be looking for something with tubes. This could get complicated, and expensive!

I'm sure that amp will be fine to get you started. Then you can decide what you like/want/need to get the tone you're after. It will be nice to have another Nightbird I in the family. I think that will make it a total of 3 on LTG...?

I'll also be interested to know what kind of case it has (assuming it's got the OHSC). I bought mine new, but I've never been sure if the case is factory correct, or just one the music store had available.

Looking forward to your NGD!

Yep. Got it. It's #3. The condition is excellent. Very few marks, and they're small. Has a great blues sound through my acoustic amp, and the neck plays like butter. Very impressive! I just wish I had some skill with it. Someday. A former owner added two coil taps, which give a big choice of sounds. It was a pro job, and the toggles look factory. All in all, I'm feeling really good about this one. It's a keeper!

Looks real nice. Congratulations! What a nice looking slab of spruce!
What do you mean when you say it's #3? The third Nightbird 1 on LTG?

If it is stamped 3-87, I believe that is a March 1987 completion date.

I'd be interested in the serial number, it's a virtual twin to mine.

The coil taps look to be a tasteful and useful addition.

Hope it brings you much joy and welcome to the electric side!!

It's serial #BC1bunchofzeros3. I presume the third made. Dated 3/87.

Cool! Mine's #BC1bunchofzeros18 from 3/87 although mine came with Dimarzios.

That's what should be on there. The EMGs were put in there at a later date. Note the mounting screws!
The mini switches were most likely added at the same time.

Sincerely,

Thanks, Hans. Now that I look, I see they've been replaced. Doesn't break my heart. The EMGs sound pretty good, and when you crank up the volume they really come alive! I wondered why there wasn't a holder for the 9v battery the active EMGs need. I guess the Dimarzios are passive.

Check in the back cover where the access to the internals for the vol/tone pots are and I'm sure you'll find a battery stuff in there.
