Well, I had two new students tonight: Bill, a WWII Marine Vet, and Erica, an active-duty Army Reservist who did a 14 month tour of Iraq. Heroes, both; an honor to have them in the program. Both beginner guitar players from scratch, had 'em both playing a respectable D and A7 before they left, and Erica was doing pretty good on G too.

And I had thought about not even going there tonight

I don't how many times I have gone somewhere out of habit even though I didn't think I wanted to be there and then realized I was supposed to be there at that moment.

Hey Dread, they are heroes but I want to give you credit as well. It is sometimes difficult to be selfless with our spare time. Good on ya mate

Dread:

How does that program work? Do you accept donated instruments?

Well, MD, the Vets play on donated "practice" instruments while they are learning, then when they graduate they get a new guitar provided by G4V. The new ones are typically Oscar Schmidt dreads, nice starter guitars. I've also had the pleasure of giving a couple of vintage Guilds to Veterans compliments of our LTG brother, Walking Man. So yes, we absolutely accept guitar donations. PM me, maybe we could also get you hooked up with a G4V chapter in your neck of the woods.

Allow me to echo that sentiment. It's happened to me more than once.

Good for you Marc. You know, the funny thing is that I've noticed I can sit down with my son or my wife, take 10 minutes out and show them a D a G an F and a C chord, one finger picking pattern and it seems in 15 minutes they know 90% of what I know after 45 years!

An F? Nobody can play an F. It'a like hitting a 2 iron. I'm possible :)

I hate "F," always have. 99% of the time I play the barre version of an "F," I think it's easier than the 4-string "F." People who write songs in "F" should be shot. Except for "Yesterday" by Lennon and McCartney of course :D

  I don't know, maybe because I learned an F at a young age or something......to me it's far easier than ANY barre chord.

Not a big fan of "B" either. I always barre that one too.
