I have nothing to back this up, but I've always felt that Guild had a much higher profile in the New York area than elsewhere. It may be a false impression, but I'd like other input or thoughts on this.

First reaction is that perhaps it's 'cause that's where they were founded and the local musician community has recognized 'em as a hometown brand for about 60 years? Maybe for the first few critical years they gained mindhsare 'cause one could literally drop in at the factory?
In counterpoint, I think Twocorgis would reitreate his frustration that he can't find a new one to try out, on display, anywhere on Long Island, at last report...

I haven't seen many of them, but good old Union Music in Worcester, MA has tons of new Guilds, both from overseas and from Hartford. As for marketing, that has never been a strong suit for Guild guitars despite the fact that time after time people tell me how much more they like my SF-4 than any 335 they have played. On the bright side, used Guild prices remain low as a result, so let the masses pay big bucks for the fancy name, and I will keep playing my Guilds that simply play and sound better (IMHO, of course).

Thank you for the welcomes!
To SFIV67: I haven't made my purchase yet, but it's definitely going to be a Guild. I already own an '87 nightbird, and I don't think I'd sell it even if I was broke and starving. By the looks of your collection, you may be able to answer the question I posted elsewhere in the Archtops forum: Quality of Hoboken made electrics vs. quality of the Westerlies? (would you spell it Westerlys?)

 But, yes I would...it's the plural of an object which is being referred to by its place of origin.
Oh and BTW, you're probably right about holding on to that Nightbird...chances are pretty small you'd ever find a replacement you'd be happy with at the same price you bought it for...
