Can anyone give me, with cerainty, the actual part number of the kidney shaped Grover tuners in 18:1? I need to do a straight change out on a JF55.
Thanks,
West

They worked on a Guild that I had temporary custody of, they looked to be the real deal to me.

Chazmo said:I got my set from Don, Jim. Just FYI. I believe he had 'em shipped from Allparts? Not sure. I did exactly that on my '71 F-50R (new Grovers 18:1 substitute for the oldies). There's a slight difference in the ferrule (the newer one has bigger diameter) so I had to invert my truss rod cover as a result. Now I'm open to ridicule anytime I show someone the headstock.
Wow, I had no idea that the problem was so widespread. :shock:adorshki said:Extensive research has shown that fullly 31% of all Guilds will suffer from Inverted Truss Rod Cover Syndrome (commonly known as "Gibsonism") at some point in their lives. Sadly, some will never recover.

Gentlemen, kindly fill me in on the nature or reason for this unusual inversion.

I'm buying a guitar that has badly pitted machine heads, it's a '97. I was looking for the origional machines and the origionals are indeed Grovers, but not 18:1. Apparently, according to Chazmo, the gear covers are a bit larger than the origionals. The D and G tuners fit closely to the truss rod cover, and if the heads were substantially larger, you'd have to put the larger part of the cover flare towards the bottom. Does that make sense?

One might think that either an extremely long TRC is being used...jmm55 said:... please try to elaborate on how the D and G come into play. ...
I'm not sure the world is ready to deal with naked truss rod adjustment nuts.BurstD55 said:You dont need a TRC! If the shoe dosent fit, take it off! Of course this is my mantra when it comes to my 1980's (dare I say vintage) err rusty toyota 4x4 pickup.
