Yeah, I used to do that with UPS. It works well if you put in the request soon after it's shipped. (I guess you have to have a [free] registered account, too.) But no more since we moved to live in the forest, far from any pickup place.... :D

I'm not to the level of hate, but I did order a saddle from Guild for my D-20 and it got miss placed by FedEx in the shuffle. Tracking now says "delayed." Not a huge deal, I just wanted an extra on hand before I take a little off the one that is on it now, but I would like to get to it some day.

We've had more trouble with FedEx than UPS and USPS combined. Right now, my daughter is waiting for a replacement of a cat bed that was supposedly delivered last week. The replacement is supposedly on FedEx vehicle for delivery, but we'll see.
A recent Ted show used FedEx and UPS as contrasting business models, FedEx uses independent contractors as drivers and had had trouble finding/keeping drivers, UPS is a union shop and not only retains its own employees but has generally avoided the hiring shortage so many companies have complained about. At the risk of sliding into politics, I'll add that the Ted show pained a broad stroke about union vs. non-union job shortage differences.

when I had the guitar shop in town, I always used the Post office next to me to ship guitars, never had any issues. Over the last year or so they decreased their shipping box dimensions. Last guitar I took there it exceeded the total size, I had to take it back to the shop and cut the box down to get it to pass. And it was a standard box Iā€™ve always used. So Iā€™ve been going to UPS ever since. Brad, when I shipped your D55, I shipped three guitars at the same time. All three landed on target, on time. Iā€™ll stick with them. As my pop always said, ā€œson if it ainā€™t broke, donā€™t fix itā€

Always been a fan of this life approach as well.
It's quite rare today however, as chaos sells. In order to make more money, companies have realized it's best to rebrand often, reinvent, confuse the heck out of your customer base...it's terrible.

Unrelated, but speaking of dads and our fave sayings by them:

"Off like a herd of turtles". My dad loved that one.

I've shipped a few guitars by USPS, never an issue, although if they've changed the limit on box dimensions, it may be different today. FWIW, the late Harry Winston (diamond merchant) always used US Post Office and never lost a diamond (registered mail).

So this is an update on my FedEx post but it is also about Guild and their great customer service. Now keep in mind all of this is over a $12 bone saddle. So I ordered a saddle because I was going to lower the action on my D-20 and I just wanted a spare in case. I ordered the saddle on the 7th. A day later it ships out via FedEx from Oxnard.

Everything is fine until it gets to Guymon, OK and it stalls there for eight days. So I sent an Email to Guild asking what they think, should I wait, no big deal it is just a saddle, but it isn't moving. So Chris Hall from Guild gets right back and tells me another one will be on the way as soon as they can get it out, USPS this time. So two days later the replacement is on the way and a day after that I get a notice that the first one coming FedEx has some how gone to Ventura, CA. I don't know, it came from California, maybe they called it back some how.

So today the USPS one is out for delivery. I go out to get the mail and an identical package from FedEx is laying on the porch. They both got delivered today, the FedEx one just made a road trip out of it. I Emailed Chris to tell him I got them both and that I could just put return to sender on the one from USPS and send it back. Of course, it's Guild, Chris said to keep it. Pretty nice of them to go to that effort for a $12 saddle.
