So I'm out collecting my mail from the mailbox this afternoon, and the neighbor kid shoots me in the head with his BB-gun! Hit me in the scalp just above my left temple. I've got quite a welt on my noggin and a bit of a headache. I went over and chewed the young lad's a$$, he's lucky I didn't wrap the BB-gun around his stupid little neck  I also had the Sherriff's deputy pay him a visit, hopefully he put the fear of God into him. I think it was accidental / ricochet, apparently he was shooting at his sidewalk. I decided not to press charges. I will be talking to his father when he gets home.

Glad to hear it didn't hit your eye. I think having the cops show up and put on a big show should scare the living crap out of the kid. What is that kid doing with a BB gun anyway? Hasn't he seen "A Christmas Story?"

Jeeze, that's horrible!! Not even safe to go check the mail, apparently. I just checked mine and .... I did it very quickly and looking around for armed neighbor kids. The sheriff deputy should have put the fear in him.... I hope.

Glad it's not too serious..... sheesh!!!

I think BB guns are a great way for a kid to learn gun safety. I certainly did from my dad. It sounds as if this kid ain't getting the message. I'm just glad it didn't hit you in the eye Marc.

how old is the 'kid'?
That was actually my first question too.

No slyness intended, but yeah, you might be doing other folks a favor to make sure he gets properly "oriented", if it wasn't done yet. Hopefully the kid's got a father, or somebody, who wants to do things the right way.
Uh oh. Better watch out, it could be you.

Me too West, I had a BB-gun at age ten, and my dad was a fanatic about gun safety. That's just the way it used to be. He gave me a shotgun at age 12, and a deer rifle at 14, we hunted together a lot. Interestingly, since dad passed away I haven't done hardly any hunting, until three years ago when my son wanted to go deer hunting. Then I taught him gun safety.

The kid across the street is probably 12 or 13 years old.

:) I can remember when my brother and I used to take off with our BB guns and a sack full of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and be gone all day long.....from morning until dark.

Isn't that funny. I used to jump on my horse in the morning with some kinda "lunch" and they wouldn't see me at home until at least an hour after dark. The last hour I could maneuver in my sleep (and obviously in the dark). No cell phones.... God forbid anything would happen... but it didn't. Wasn't life grand back then, West? It's a good way to grow up...

Yes it was......a different time, so innocent it seemed. Back then, mom and dad could let us go for the entire day without a worry.....doors unlocked. Tree houses and BB guns.........man, that was a long time ago! Such fond memories.

As an ex-RN, I can tell you that's a very vulnerable area near where you were hit. You did the right thing calling for a uniform to spook him. Hope you find a responsible parent to follow up. You were lucky. Well, in your bad luck, if you know what I mean.

A person is hit hard to the temple
Your skull is composed of six major bones, three of which are joined at the temple. This makes the temple extremely vulnerable. A forceful blow can cave in this junction of the skull causing death. The temporal artery supplying blood to the brain is also located in this area, so a blow to the temple also has the possibility of rupturing this artery causing sudden blindness and/or death.
