Great news Pascal, and I'm really glad that it seems like Florida has dodged a bullet here. I have been texting back and forth with Dapmdave and Fixit, and while they both evacuated and are staying inland with family (given their proximity to the coast I would have done the same), neither of their houses has even lost power up to this point. When you stop and consider what the potential damage could have been that's great news indeed.

My 83 year old mother rode it out in Vero Beach, which is slightly North of Pascal. She lost power at 3:00am, and had it back by 7:00am. There is a lot of crap from the palms all over the ground, but her roof and walls are intact. There may be a round 2 in a few days if it makes a U-turn, but the worst should be over. Florida dodged a bullet for sure.

downgraded to CAT 3, still scary but better than a 4 or 5. How it going?

Thanks for keeping us updated, Pascal. Let's hope to hear from dapmdave and Fixit and others soon.
I would like to hear from then too Toni, their area got hit harder than mine, because the beast kept getting closer and closer to the shore as it tracked North.
Still, the good news is that the eye never landed in Florida.
Extremely close call for sure.

I'll take a Cat 5 any day over a quake. Hurricanes don't scare me (much) but quakes? Hell no

'S a funny thing, about 99% of the time, it's over by the time you figure out it's happening, but it's that one that didn't stop (Loma Prieta 1989, I was only about 15 mi from epicenter) that primes you for all the ones that come after:
"UH-oh!"
But hours of wondering if the roof's gonna let loose or the water's gonna come up to chest level for days?
Not sure I'd take that over the quake....tough call.
I guess maybe the difference is you get a lot of warning for a known definite threat with a hurricane.
Glad to hear everybody's safe so far.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

We spent the night safe & sound in Gainesville. Came back Friday evening to find very little damage but no power. My neighborhood is kind of famous (or is that infamous) for power problems so no surprise.

Latest update from the power company is that we'll be out until Sunday evening. But I am the proud owner of a new generator so we'll survive.

So we are breathing a big sigh of relief. That thing could've been really, really bad.

Good news, Dave!! Things could have been REALLY bad, so although being w/o power is a pain in the butt, all things considered, a tolerable and temporary situation!! Glad to hear it, amigo!! :encouragement:

Glad to hear you and the family are all OK Dave! That was a very close call. Even though the Eye stayed off shore, the Dirty side of the storm hitting the coastal areas could have been a lot worse than it was. Spending a night or two with Generator power is close enough to a camping trip so just chalk it up to a Family Outing! Any word from Fixit?

AFAIK, they lost power for a few hours Friday morning, and had no damage.

The wife and I went out to a local drinking establishment last night to watch the football game (FSU vs Miami) in air-conditioned comfort. When we came home our street was full of power company trucks and our electricity was soon restored.

Excellent News Dave and that turned out to be a pretty good game to watch. Glad the power is back on, There is something to be said for having the AC back on at the house even in October!
