A couple of thoughts:

The stock bone that comes with the GADs are pure crap. I would contact Bob Colosi for a new saddle. I have had 2 GADs and one (GAD30) was a dead guitar and the other (GAD30R) came with a chipped saddle. The Colosi saddles are a work of art and really toned up my 000-15 (All Hog just like the GAD25). The GADs have a pretty thick finish so they will not resonate as easily as other guitars, but they still have potential over time. I would consider changing strings as well. Nothing kills the guitars tone like a nice set of coated strings. I would try something in the .13-.54 range of lights as they are slightly larger than .12-.53 which will add greater tension to louden up the guitar without putting too much strain on the neck. If you want added brightness, try some phosphor bronze strings instead of 80/20s. DR and GHS make some that would fit the bill.

I would say that the saddles on GADs are some kind of bone composite but not pure bone. They seem to be more fragile than bone or for that matter plastic. Thanks for posting this Ridge as I am inspired to replace the saddle on my GAD25 now. I already like how it sounds so if a new saddle makes it better...that's a good thing. :D

On a more helpful note than my earlier post might I suggest some DR rares, I've found they have a very full and warm tone to them, certainly warmer than the EJ 26 custom lights I usually use.

Good luck...

Hey 12-er, While I am not entirely sure about GADs, the Martin stock saddles from Bob Colosi work great on my F30. My F30 originally came with a straight uncompensated saddle and I replaced it with a Martin style compensated one. You of course will have to sand it down to fit the slot in the bridge but it works (at least with my F30). This way you will not have to send him your saddle so he can make an exact duplicate. He has the Martin style saddles in stock.

+1 on the DR Rares. Those are some bright strings and will liven up any guitar.

Hi Ridge
Mine came with a compesated saddle, but that is good to know that Bob has Martin compensated saddles that should work.
Thanks kindly

The replacement bone saddle I put in my GAD came from Bob. Matter of fact, I bought his old Taylor 514ce some years ago. I never should have gotten rid of that guitar.

I have some saddle blanks from Stewart McDonald too. I haven't shaped one yet to see if they are any good, but I agree that Bob's supplies and workmanship is first rate.

Around the end of the week, there will be some medium gauge Silk & Steel strings coming to my house. We'll see how they sound, but friends from another forum seem to feel I've made a step in the right direction with the purchase of those strings.

One experiment I did that sounded good was simply to tune down 1/2 a step. There is some rattle when I strum aggressively, but playing fingerstyle with the detuning is just sensual.

This has been a helpful thread. I recently put elixer nanos on my gf25 mahogany and they are very bright. I hope they mellow out some :?

Who sells these attachable armrests? When playing my guitars (D35 and F212) my arm does rest over and around the upper portion of the guitar bur when I attempt to lift my arm and balance the guitar away from my body, the sound is so much richer. Wow, what a difference !

Absolutely... and getting it away from your body frees up the back and that can make quite a difference too.

I just don't know about the idea of sticking something to the finish of one of my guitars. I gotta do some more research.
Do a little searching. It was discussed here within the last 90 days or so with some pics too.
