First time posters on LTG, but I've been a supporting member of The Gear Page for a long time.

I'm on the hunt for a Guild X-160 Rockabilly. Where do I begin? Also, what is a fair price for one these days?

Welcome aboard Joseph! Suggest sites like Reverb and eekBay, even Craisglistings. If you didn't see it, we also have a subforum dedicted to online listing sightings for folks 'on the prowl'.

Heck who knows maybe even a member might be ready to part with one. This is probably the best place to begin. ;)

Sorry can't help you on pricing but I'm sure you'll have some more input tomorrow.

Also do you have a particular year(s) in mind? Although I'm basically a flattop fan, I'm pretty sure I recall reading the body had a slight dimension change between Westerly and Corona, as well as other details?

So how'd you come to want an X-160 Rockabilly? :)

Thank you so much for your kind welcome post! I don't know much about the X-160, but I've been looking for a full hollow body w/bigsby and Dynas for a while now. I was looking at Eastman's T58V, but I'd rather have a MIA guitar. I recently bought a 1965 Guild Starfire IV, and I am really impressed by Guild.

There are a few Gretsch models that would meet that requirement, if you don't mind them being the "other" G brand. :)

About 99% sure it's the Tennessee Orange, the photos just make it look very dark. When I look at full size pics on a 27" screen it looks more orange. There was a red finish option, though, "Fiesta Red" IIRC. Only ever recall seeing one of those, here.

Welcome to the forum!

If you're open to other Guilds, there are a few other choices, which can expand your search a little bit. Unfortunately, they're priced a little higher, since they're also quite rare.

-- There are the early 60s thinner body Starfire IIIs. I noticed you already commented on the one that a forum member has for sale.
-- Some Guild Duane Eddy models, also from the early '60s, were sometimes equipped with Guild Dearmonds.
-- The rarest birds are the occasional X-500s that can be found with Dearmonds.

As mentioned, they won't expand your search by much, but you might just come across one that will grab your attention. Good luck on your search, and be sure to post a WTB in the Buy, Sell, Trade subforum.

Hard to say, orange and red often come out differently in photos. As Al already said there was a Fiesta Red option however, look in the 2002 catalog:

Now after looking again the one on Reverb is indeed Fiesta Red! (Sorry to Al...) Look at the back of the headstock and the solid color vs. a Tennessee Orange one with translucent color! Both guitars are from 2002 from the Corona factory. Also compare to GAD's review, the Tennessee Orange is always translucent.

Anyway, I'd think both colors would look cool.

Be aware the pickups are not "proper" Dynas. I like them, though.

There are also a few Gr***ch models you can try, but what about the new X175 Manhattan? MIK but well enough liked. Same pups as the X160

Yep T. Orange always translucent, never looked at back of headstock to see it was "solid", thought the front pics were just at an angle that obscured translucency as well as making it look darker. Agreed, seller misidentified finish color, it is Fiesta Red.
Good "catch"!:)
