Veer time - the urge just hit me - can't help it

Cockroaches remind me of a funny thing that happened at West Lake Sylvia MN in 1975 or -77. We were at neighbours - Audrey and Art - elderly couple - retired, but in good spirits and reasonable health. Art was a bit weak walking - he was sitting at kitchen table having beer - face down he sees a cockroach and speaks loudly - "Audrey - cockroach north of waste basket ." She then stomped it.

I understand easily how one talks about compass directions outside - but inside ? ? ?

Do you guys do that - or do you know anybody doing that? Only in USA ? ? ?

These are some of the ones that popped out at the last good rain we had - but all from my garden which is a normal suburban sized block.
It's amazing what you can find if you go poking about.
