My Daughter just said to me,

"The Leafs lost last night didn't they?, Does that mean they're out?"

I said, "It was the first game of an 82 games season dear, but yes it does."

Love the deep faith there in Leaf nation. There's commitment for you.

Canucks could do it all this year.

I'm a quasi Leaf fan, or is it queasy?

Kinda like a car wreck and they're the only team around here with decent exposure, though the Hamilton Bulldogs are the AHL affiliate to the Habs, and are always a good night out.

NHL in Hamilton? Probably ain't going to happen for many years if ever. We were screwed when Ottawa got the franchise, literally as we were the only bidding city that had met all of the pre qualifications. Mainly an owner with deep pockets, Ron Joyce, Mr. Tim Horton, a fully operational area, Copps Coliseum, needs work now but was quite new at the time, and Ottawa didn't even have a shovel in the ground on their arena, and a solid commitment of ticket sales, over 15,000 season tickets pre-sold.

Sour grapes, sure, why not? This area can support an NHL franchise much better than several of the floundering franchises out there now, but the philosophy is to Amercanize the game where Americans really don't care about it.

Remember FoxTrax? Give me a break!

Fox trax was a joke! Really too many cooks in that kitchen.

I agree Graham, Hamilton was screwed over...should have got the franchise and have a much better fan base. Hamilton has always been a big sports town. :D

Too much in the shadow of the Big Smoke.

They will probably get a second franchise before the rest of Southern Ontario gets one.

Although it's comforting for us to know that Toronto's teams suck!!

Hi Graham; flounder? fishes? The baseball Marlins have won it all twice in the last 11 years and each time, the team was broken up the following year ... playing to 3,000-5,000 crowds in the years thereafter. The Panthers, not to be outdone at shrinking their attendance, also won big and broke up their winning team up to get their crowd sizes down too ... something to do with helping to justify the whining?

Speaking of Americanization, the Panthers play at Bob's Auto Body and Day School Arena ... right across the Interstate highway from the eastern edge of the Everglades. I understand the arena was built there to facilitate attendance by the Seminole and Miccosukee Indians who routinely mush to games on their dogsleds.

Grody How.

In today's Globe & Mail (Oct 5) sports columnist Jeff Blair ruminated about Toronto pro sports teams: "....hmmm, Leafs, Argos, Jays, Raptors.....Might as well drape the Sports section in black crepe".
