I remain unclear on which years and models Kim Walker was involved with Guild along with Gruhn. Would someone who knows this history please enlighten me? I apologize in advance for redundancy as I'm sure it's been explained here numerous time. I just didn't see it. Thanks.

Hello oldgoat,

If your question could have been answered in a couple of sentences I would have done it but you're basically asking for a complete chapter of my upcoming book and that's quite a bit more than I want to give away now.

I hope you understand!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hi Hans,
Thanks for your candid response. I understand completely. When is you new book due for release? I'll order one right now if I can. In fact, I began with your first book (as I always do with anything concerning Guild), but I couldn't find anything there.
I'm just real interested in playing/purchasing some Guilds that were made in the Kim Walker era. I've heard some great things about them, but all of my Guild purchases have been from earlier eras. By the way, I finally found a maple F-20. It's had some mods, but I think I can bring her back in time. I may want to consult you on materials and a repairman best suited for this job once I get started.

Thanks Guildzilla. That thread gave me pretty much what I needed. I'm looking hard at 1989 GF-25 NT. I'm convinced now it's from the Walker era. Agree?

Sorry folks but I do consider that particular posting an example of falsifying Guild history. It is written by someone who should know better but for some reason has all the facts mixed up, if not wrong. Probably not intentional but that doesn't make it right.
Hi Hans; that guy was about the 3rd or 4th person to say they were a former Guild exec to wander through here ... all of them offering only insider tidbits or bad facts ... but they were all quick to say that everything was fine while they were there ... John

All I can do is grin and say I'm not surprised. Call it data then, not information.

CJ nailed it. There is great seeking of praise by the stars of the Guild legacy, but very little accepting of responsibility.

Oh well. In Hans and Hide, we trust.

Well, I got jamming with a friend last night and missed the auction anyway. So, I'm back to square one it seems. One thing I think I have nailed down, as it's common knowledge, is that Kim came to Guild with Gruhn (from George's shop) in '86 and was in charge of production by '87. He started his own business in '94, so that period of '86 to the early nineties is the era I'm looking for. I'd like to get the model designations from that time period as I think some were changed from what Guild had previously used. The guitar I was interested in was labeled GF-25. The VG price guide only lists the GF-30, GF-50, and GF-60R. Now, Gruhn's book lists those three as well as the GF-25, GF-40, and GF-55. Then, it also shows a JF-30 and a JF-50R that were introduced in '87. So, perhaps that's it as far as new designations go? They were certainly building more models than these during this era, so there's bound to be others. Did these maintain their previous Guild model numbers? Whew! My head's spinning just writing about it.

About that book, Hans. Can you send me an advanced copy? Seriously, when do you think it will be released?

Old Goat....if I was looking for a Walker/Gruhn acoustic(and I am 8) ), I would start with the F-44/46 and D-44/46 models. That would be my first choice. Then I would focus on the GF-50/60, D-60 models.

My only exposure to these has been an F-46 model at Gruhns, and a D-60 I bought off of ebay that was a lot more beat up than advertised. Both compelling....
