Well, I got jamming with a friend last night and missed the auction anyway. So, I'm back to square one it seems. One thing I think I have nailed down, as it's common knowledge, is that Kim came to Guild with Gruhn (from George's shop) in '86 and was in charge of production by '87. He started his own business in '94, so that period of '86 to the early nineties is the era I'm looking for. I'd like to get the model designations from that time period as I think some were changed from what Guild had previously used. The guitar I was interested in was labeled GF-25. The VG price guide only lists the GF-30, GF-50, and GF-60R. Now, Gruhn's book lists those three as well as the GF-25, GF-40, and GF-55. Then, it also shows a JF-30 and a JF-50R that were introduced in '87. So, perhaps that's it as far as new designations go? They were certainly building more models than these during this era, so there's bound to be others. Did these maintain their previous Guild model numbers? Whew! My head's spinning just writing about it.
About that book, Hans. Can you send me an advanced copy? Seriously, when do you think it will be released?
