Yes I was which was good. I also see one of the headstock pieces on eBay. It's sort of pricey. I might go that route or just a decal so you can see the finish. Not sure if my finish idea is going to work how I want or not. We shall see!

Well, you could slap a decal on and if you decide you don't like it go with the veneer/inlay. At least you won't have to redo the whole project.

JB SH-4B and 59 SH-1N, same pickup combination like the new Guild Bluesbirds have: http://guildguitars.com/g/bluesbird-in-iced-tea-burst/

Making some progress on this.
After some experimenting, the finish I am doing is the following:
First, a thin coat of a deep dark blue metallic from Duplicolor
Then, pore o pac filler mixed with blue dye. I tried using a glow dye for this but it didn't really work as far as glowing. I then sprayed the neck satin and the body gloss and used Duplicolor clear effex which is a fine multi color metallic effect. I'm not sure how well this is going to come off as it seems to disappear as I layer more clear. Here's how it's looking so far.

Progress update:
Finish process was:
The finish process was:
1 Coat of dark blue metallic Duplicolor
Coat of clear or shellac (I forget)
Dye grain filler light blue and apply, wipe excess with fine scotch bright.
Apply Duplicolor Clear FX which is little multicolor sparkles which didn't show up all that well unless close
Apply Watco clear nitro gloss
Finish neck in Watco clear nitro satin

As you know, these came with a Duncan JB and 59 which had some great snarl in this guitar. I replaced them with a pair of Tom Anderson Humbuckers I had but it doesn't have the same attitude now even though they are great pickups - they are very clean. However, the aesthetics look better with covered humbuckers on this one so I am looking to get a new set of covered Duncans or maybe just some GFS covered replacements as I have had luck with GFS in the past. I still need a headstock logo and truss rod cover to replace the old one.

Thanks for update!
Spank me for bein' a troublemaker but have you considered seeing how it looks with old 'guard and TRC?
I think you might be surprised, I think it'd work a lot better with that blue than it did with the yellow. :friendly_wink:
