Folks...can anyone shed some light on this 12 string for me? I know it's a Guild but I haven't seen this particular model before. It's in an estate sale taking place this Friday and I would appreciate any info that can be provided. If someone has an idea of value that would be a bonus.

Thanks.

That is a Yamaha Twelve String I am 99% sure but, if I could see the emblem on the Headstock I could tell for sure. I don't know the model but, The pickguard indicates Yamha.

Hmmm, don't look like a Guild to me. Not with that headstock or pickguard.

Did Guild build an open headstock 12 string?
It's advertised as a Guild and when I opened the photo in Photoshop and enlarged it there is definitely a Guild logo on the headstock. I'm puzzled.

Someone either trying to off it as more than it is or yet another one saying "When I bought it it said Guild on the headstock, so it must be a Guild."

Do a little research, like you've done by posting it here, and you'll be OK with purchasing a "real" Guild.

BTW, welcome to LTG.

Interesting...they have quite a collection of guitars going at this particular sale and I've been able to pinpoint the ones I'm interested in...a great 1932 Gibson L2...but I can't find anything on a Guild with a headstock like this. My F212 isn't going anywhere but this one would be intriguing if it were for real.

As I said earlier I believe this is a Yamaha at least the body, it looks like someone may have taken a Yamaha body and put a Guild neck on it or they took off the Yamaha decal and replaced it with a Guild decal. Either way I think it is an imitation. I am not saying the seller is trying to pull a Fast one they just may be the first victum of whoever did this scam job originally. JMHO now if someone can get me a clearer pic of the headstock I can tell for sure.

That pickguard tells me that the "Guild 12-string" in the photo is a Yamaha 12-string! It's another one of those Guild wannabes. They're all over the place, so caveat emptor!

That's another reason why we love our traditional Guild pickguards.
They stand out in any crowd!

I think you're right on...I've come up with an FG512 as a pretty darn close match.

Close but the pick you posted has a slotted peghead.

So does an FG512.

I agree...that's why I brought it here...I figured if it wasn't recognized by this crew it wasn't recognized anywhere. I've had Guilds since 1962 and never come across a slotted head.

Here's one that claims to be an FG-512.

You lost me here.

These are additional photos of the Yamaha I posted.

Couldn't they have issued the same model with both a slotted headstock and non-slotted?

I ran it through Photoshop, but I'm not able to resolve a Guild logo. Could you post a clip of the logo?

Sure looks like a Yammer-Hammer.

Dave,

I'm agreeing with you, that's why I posted the Yamaha FG512.

Yamaha has often changed guitars, but stuck the same name on them. There are at least 4 variations that I know of for the FG300 (some included a metal adjustable bridge, some didn't, some had a pickguard with Gibson Hummingbird type artwork, others had a plain one). In this case, the guitars shown, one with the solid headstock, and the other with the slotted headstock are probably both FG512s, just made in different years, and most likely in different factories. There are many instances of the same guitar being made in Japan (the famous Yamaha red label Nippon Gakki guitars) later being made in Taiwan/China/Indonesia with very different appointments, and without the red label.

They are also offering a 'Guild Classical Guitar" below:

Dave

Dave,

I'm viewing it at 300 ppi...by the time I upload to photobucket and download here you'll be looking at a low res. I can definitely see right angle lettering although the actual letters are not legible. As I said in my earlier post, I'll get a look at it Friday morning unless some dealer beats me to it.
