Has anyone changed HB1's in their VINTAGE Starfire IV?

I know its blasphemy, but I was curious if anyone had done this? Esp voluntarily?

Given the larger size of vintage HB1's was it a challenge to change pups or mount them?

What did you change them to?

Was it a tonal improvement? How did the sound change?

Back in the day it was popular for us to pull out the stock pickups and put in Dimarzios. A good frined of mine did exactly that for a time. Because thevintage HB1s are larger, the "normal" humbuckers fit in just fine. They just leave a small gap around the outside. Here's an example. Though this is an S300A-D that came stock with dimarzios, it was routed for HB1s.

If I were to swap out vintage HB1s today, I would only consider boutique 'buckers like WCR. Though the vintage HB1s sound magnificent, WCRs might get you more articulation and PAF-like tone if that's what you're after.
