Hey Folks,

I hope this post finds everyone well. I've enjoyed the LTG community for some time now and thought I'd relate my recent situation and ask anyone else in this situation now or somewhere in your past to let us know.

I'm in the process of selling my last Guild, a very tough decision as you all know. I have been out of work for a few months now and bills have to be paid. I had been recovering from loosing my job about six years ago and here I am again. At 47 it's not as easy as it was when I was in my 30's. But many of you know this story all too well. If you have a family, a mortgage or just yourself to take care of you know that sometimes requires some hard decisions.

I just thought I'd run down a list a fine Guild guitars I've had the pleasure to have spent some years with.

1972 Guild D25
1978 Guild S-60
1978 Guild B-301
1979 Guild S-70D
1979 Guild S-300D
1983 Guild Starfire IV
1989 Guild 3C (from Alhambra in Spain)
1993 Guild X-170
2003 Guild Peregrine

These were all enjoyed in their time and I can only hope they have found good homes, maybe with one of you good LTG folk. I have always tried to look toward better days and will do so now. Knowing that at some point in the future another fine Guild guitar will cross my path and more good times will be had.

Thanks for your time and let me know of the hard choices you have had to make. Better days are coming!

Sorry to hear that, Dave. Hang in there and believe that better days are indeed coming.

These are all ones you have sold? I wish I would have known sooner because I might have taken one or two off your hands with the proviso that you would have right of first refusal to buy them back when you get back on your feet. I've made similiar offers to other people that I have bought guitars from who sold them out of economic hardship.

Even though you may soon be Guild-less, make sure you stay current with the Forum. Possession is not mandatory but enthusiasm is.

Sounds like rough times Dave, your Guilds may have found new homes, but don't you go anywhere, I've found many friends and a lot of support here, prayers too. And during the hard times have acquired 2 more Guilds....Magic can happen here too....So hang in there....as someone once said..."Cheer up, things could be worse...........so I cheered up, and sure as hell....things got worse.".... Keep your smile handy...when you least expect it you may discover that you are loved.....a lot...Steffan

It's amazing how simple decisions get when they're categorized by a "mortgage payment or fun."
Just a consideration, but if you sold it on LTG, you might be able to swing a "buy it back in the future" clause. :)
Let us know when you're selling, and don't hesitate to use the folks here to network on your employment situation.
Best of luck!

If I could, I would, and I'm sure lots of folks here would too.

Best to you Dave.
I'd venture to say that most of us have "been there and done that," and even though it still doesn't make it any easier for you, just know that we're all pulling for you and you can always stop by to visit and tell us how it's going. Keep moving forward!

Take care of yourself,

Losing my job when I had custody of my two boys was a tough time but nowhere near as tough as it is these days. I don't know what to expect from the future for guys your age. I'm lucky to be where I am at 62; drawing social security and veteran's disability benefits and I count my blessings for that as ironic as they may be.

Where do you live? Eastern Pa.? Can you leave to find work elsewhere? Are you seriously tied to the area in which you live. Are you talented enough to do handyman work? I know, it's easy for someone else to say, "You gotta move. You gotta find work elsewhere. You gotta change the maze of the rat race. Maybe put out your own shingle and do private work.

Lots o' good people here. If they can find something for you they'll give you a heads up. And they'll be praying for you as well.

Peace

Best of luck Dave.

Our company employs a lot of union iron workers to install our windows, and our payroll has gone from 225 six months ago to 21 now. There's a lot of my brothers out of work now, and I feel for them. Times will get better here in NY, but it will be a while. I'm alright for now, as I handle all the logistics, but who knows? I'd sure hate to sell any of my babies, so I sure know how you feel. :(

Dave, hang in there (from a fellow 47 y. o.). I wish you the best in dealing with the hard times.

Keep the music in your soul. The great thing about Guilds is that when the time is right you'll be able to get right back into things.

Hey Dave. Hang in there buddy. I think I might know how you feel. I have had a go of it these past 4 or 5 years. I am also 47, hope that's just a coincidence. I encourage you to think outside the box, reinvent yourself, and hang out with positive people. Most importantly, work wise, is that I have learned no job is beneath me when it comes to supporting my family and every opportunity turns into another opportunity.
God Bless

Great line I heard a woman use in a song she wrote....'Pride goes down the drain, when there's no one left to blame.;....just don't give up....and remember who you are, and are capable of being...play on brother...Steffan

Thats about what unemployment at the plumbers local is here in St. Louis- 500 union plumbers out of work here

Hang in there Dave. Its been rough out there, but I truly believe that it is slowly getting better. Like others have said, if you decide to sell it, chances are someone here would let you buy it back later on.

Hello to all at LTG,

A special hello and thanks to everyone who in 2010 responded to my post!

That was a tough time for me and many others, and still is for many. As my post explained then, I was at the tail end of bad situation resulting in having to sell my small collection Guild guitars.

My family and I are in much better shape in 2013. Steady work has allowed us to dig out of the financial hole we were in. Enough so that I was able to purchase a Guild once again at the end of last year, 1984 D46, and another this year, 1985 MKS-10. It's so nice to come home after a long day's work and relax in the evening making music with a sweet sounding guitar.

Thanks again to all,

Hey Dave, good news indeed!! I wasn't even a member here when you did the original post. Sad situation that happened to you and lots of other people as well. But this is good news that you're back, and doing well and re-Guilding your life!! Congratulations on riding out the storm and coming out the other side a winner!! :D :D
