Bob Dylan turns 72 years young today and he's still going strong.

My wife, daughter and I will be toasting him later this evening down the at Zimmy's (the host of the annual Dylan Days festivities held annually here in his home town).

We will be enjoying some talented song writers and musicians that will play one of their original songs and one Dylan tune. Should be a good time as always.

Cheers to Bob!

" Mr. Zimmerman "

My older brother Marty had a room upstairs in the attic
of the house I grew up in.
When he went away to college I got his room.
That's where I learned to play/sing Bob Dylan songs.
" Positively 4th Street " 1965.
Happy birthday Mr. Zimmerman !

This post has been up since 6:32 AM and only two replies!!?
Wow!

Just sayin',
Joe

While I acknowledge his cultural significance I can not say I ever cared much for Bob Dylan's music. Under the circumstances it seems somewhere between silly and hypocritical for me to offer him birthday wishes. While I am obviously violating the guidelines derived from my experience, some of the nastiest LTG meltdowns requiring serious Moderation have started because of differences of opinions on the musical merits or lifestyles of popular figures, so I tend to err on the silent side unless I have something positive to say about he person.

No one is forcing you to offer birthday wishes so I would ask, why post anything at all?
It seems like you might indeed be violating Moderator/member guidelines by veering from the point of the original post to state your negative opinion about his music.

Can we get a second moderator in here? ;)

I can listen to good Dylan all day long. There was a lot of bad, too, but I simply don't listen to that. My admittedly puny repertoire contains no Dylan. The stuff he did well doesn't need redoing. The stuff he did badly doesn't need doing, at all.

I second chariea's thoughts! There is a lot of good Dylan to listen to and enjoy, and when it's bad, I just ignore it. Like any other band, I guess.

But you have to give him his due for his impact on culture and the music world - many many artists tried to follow in his footsteps. He made the *words* and the *story* the focus, which had not really been done to that level before.

One thing's for sure, Bob Dylan (Zimmerman) certainly has had his share of criticism. From the beginning when the High School Principal cut the power on him and his band during the school program, 'til now, when people are saying his voice is too far gone and arthritis is affecting his ability to play guitar to continue doing shows. But, just like from the beginning, as he always has, HE DOES IT HIS WAY and pays no mind to what anybody thinks. I think, that's what I admire most about him.

I got to see and hear some very talented Dylan inspired Songwriter/Singer/Musicians this past weekend. There were some very well written and performed songs indeed.

Like him or not, I don't think anyone can deny the influence he's had on American music.
