While it does not alter the course of my life, I always find it weird when someone describes an instrument as "minty".

In the English language, that is to be used when something smells, tastes or somehow evokes mint - the plant (or herb if you prefer) - not as an adjective to describe an object in almost as new condition.

I think it's a corruption of "freshly minted" and "minty fresh." It is kind of annoying, but there are far larger transgressions.
