I await the recital report !

I enjoy reading about your enthusiasm ! I recall getting excited when ever I could play a new song or could make a clean barre chord or play something as fast as the record. The more you can tackle and eventually conquer, the more fun it is. The further you go, the more OTHER skills don't seem out of reach. Keep reaching !

Walrus, I've finally gotten around to reading your thread on lesson. The only thing I'd add, or at least what I intend to do one day is simply to build on what I know, which isn't much. For me, I'll concentrate on the music I like. That which appeals to me. I'd like to start at what I know, and learn some licks to enhance what I do. Maybe dabble in some new stuff in the country/folk/classic rock and easy listening genre I already do. Therein lies my desire to learn new finger picking patterns.

When I have a new student I always tell them to bring five simple songs they know to the first lesson. If they're already familiar with a song it speeds up the process.
Fingerpicking is usually my main focus since some people just can't seem to get comfortable with a pick.
Patience, persistence, perseverance, and.....PRACTICE. :eagerness:

Agreed. That's why I'm enjoying ArtistWorks, although a lot has to do with the teacher of the Rock school, Paul Gilbert. Guitarist for the 90's bans Mr. Big, he has also been known for his lessons, etc. I do the lessons I want, and through the Video Exchanges, I can tell him what I'd like to do, he gives me feedback, etc. I've learned a lot of songs through the site, too, as he often shows a student how to play a whole song - you can look at every other student's videos and every video Paul has done for every other student. Huge "database" of lessons and information. His lessons are great, and he has a great sense of humor. This particular school is perfect for me, as it matches my interest in music. You would probably do the Finger Picking school, or whatever.

Anyway, whatever you do, good luck!

I don't know how many folks follow Griff Hamlin. He kind of disappeared for a while, but now I'm getting an email every day. Interesting stuff to choose from in the blues genre, no structured lessons just information. He sells a large list of specific courses on discs.
