Thanks for the links, k. Good stuff there, especially (of course) the Starfire.

Here's the full video of The Shins from the Letterman show on 3/20, in 720p HD, showing his rare 1966 Emerald green Starfire IV (neck to body joint 16th fret).

Look at the excellent condition of that guitar! I just love it! I really would like to own such a 1966 in Emerald green!

Great video grabs! Yeah, that guitar is gorgeous. I prefer the higher fret access of the 67s, but I wouldn't turn that guitar down!

Well, I never play up there...And I have a 67 anyway, but 66 is my birth year, I just did not find a good 66 in Mahogany when I bought the 67. Also, I am not sure I ever saw a (right hand) Emerald green one with the 18th fret body joint, it's almost like they only made them in Emerald green for a short time. The only other pictures I have is for S/N EL780, which was a 1966 with 16th fret to body joint. I have not seen other right handed emerald green SF IVs yet. A friend of a LTG member had a 1967 Starfire IV in Emerald Green, but no pictures, so I don't know what model that was.

There was this strange custom one, from roughly early 1965, with the special G headstock and fretboard inlays and the strange knobs and switch position on ebay as well:

I've seen a couple of lefthanded ones from 1967 and later:
Like that one:

Or another lefthanded 1967 one was just sold last week on ebay:

I wonder who else has emerald green Starfire IVs.

I've seen a few but I never owned one myself. I'm a sucker for black finished ones and those are even harder to find.

I did have a Starfire XII in Emerald Green at some point though:

@SFIV1967, I don't play up there all that much either, but there are times that the extra neck real estate helps. That said, my Casino has a 16th fret neck join and I adore that guitar! Supposedly, the longer neck Casinos and ES330s don't have the same chime as the ones with the 16th fret neck join. Have people noticed a difference in sound between the 16th fret and 18th fret neck join Starfire IV and Vs?

Hans, that green Starfire XII is a beauty. Must've been hard to give that one up.
