I recently had a choice between two Guild archtops, a late '90's Westerly built X-150D and an early 2000 ish Corona built X-150. I initially chose the Westerly built guitar but have since traded it for the Corona built model. The Corona X-150 is, to me, much more comfortable to play. The guitar seems better balanced, has a 16" (vs 16.75") LB and a thinner 3" (vs3.25") body depth. I was surprised at the differences in the guitars as I thought that an X-150 was an X-150. I recently read about an X-180 Park Avenue that was also manufactured at the Corona facility that seems to share the same dimensions as the Corona built X-150.
I'm really pleased with this guitar and love the feel of it. The fit and finish are beautiful and it seems to be very well constructed. I'm going to replace the pickup with a Gibson Classic '57 as the original pickup seems a bit thin to me.
I'm wondering if anyone else has any information on the Corona built archtops?
Not great pictures, I'll post more when I have a chance.
Thanks,
Keith
