Hey guys, just registered. Being a Gretsch player for several years I found myself a superb Guild X-160 Rockabilly in metallic blue with serial number CB 000299. The looks and the feel are awesome!
Am I right that the guitar is build in may 2004?
After selling one of my gretsches (a G6129T Silver Jet) to a nice person from Amsterdam last friday, I drove all the way to Pleckhausen in Germany on saturday morning where I bought the Guild from a person who's a fool to let go such a superior piece of art.
The guitar has had several upgrades to make it even beter than it was already.
The upgrades are :
- TV Jones Pickups (neck: Classic, bridge: Classic Plus)
- Chrome Schaller Locking tuners
- ABR-1 adjustomatic bridge
- Q-parts chrome / pearl dome knobs
- New bone nut
- Schaller Strap locks
The X-160 is a masterpiece of work. The feel, the looks and especially the sound (with the TV-Jones pickups) is fantastic!!!
I'm very happy and proud to own one of my dreamguitars. Never thought I would find one but all the pieces of the puzzle came together the way I dreamed they would com.
Last Saturday was a busy day indeed. In the morning the trip to Pleckhausen to pick up the guitar and at 20:00 PM I was standing in front of the stage in AB Brussels to watch Willy Deville giving a very good concert together with the Mink Deville Band. He was a little bit drunk but did a very good concert. I'm glad I had a busy day, last Saturday...

Here are some pics of my upgraded X-160 Rockabilly :

So guys, what do you think about my new beloved one?
Here are my two main guitars. They both sound awesome    !!!

Yep, it's a kind of blue with a sort of green in it. It depends on in which light fall you see it.
It's kind of a car colour. It's special, indeed.

Looks pretty nice. That blue is fantastic. How does the sound compare to actual Filtertrons?
hi dane,
the sound of the tv-jones is warmer and has a wider range.
i played a gretsch 6119T for a few years and that guitar had the originals.
i hear a real difference between the filtertron and the tv-jones pickups.

regards,
gerrit

Hi Gerrit !

welcome to the family. Good to hear another Belgian on the forum, especially a X160 player like me. I saw that guitar on ebay too, and a friend of mine actually considered gettng it too, after seeing mine (and he's a Gretsch-man too). You're in a band ? Perhaps we know eachother...
You can hear me and my Rockabilly model on http://www.myspace.com/motelmen

Howdy Caveman,
thanks for the welcoming to the family. hey man, super sounds with the motel men. very good. my kind of music, sure is. well i play in a band called the catsmokes. we play like pure '58 style rock and roll and a mix of country and rockabilly. you can see and hear us at http://www.catsmokes.be .
our website needs work though. we had some problems with mister webmaster so the site diddn't change for about 2 years now. so things as the playlist you can see are only correct for about 35%. the catsmokes play own songs and other big songs of jesse dayton, j. burnette, the blasters, the hollisters, etc...

howdy michael,
I play trough a very, very, very good Koch Twintone 50 + Koch KC50 extension which I bought in 1992,
over a Keeley compressor and Barber Direct Drive Super Sport and a Barber LTd.
This morning I tried oud the Guild X-160 with the Koch amp. AWESOME, never had a superour sound like that before. Yep, Guild is still somethin' else than Gretsch. I have to admit it!

Great band you have, Gerrit. I'll try to see you guys someday. I tried those Koch amps too recently, and must admit, they are some of the finest channel switching amps around. And I use a Barber LTD too, through a super reverb, with just some delay and maybe another booster. Beware though, this guild thing can be addictive ... For me it started with seeing Walter Broes with his old X175 (also member here), then I got to buy a '64 Starfire IV, found this forum and before you know, you have a whole collection ! Just kiddin', we all are very greatful to have found such a wonderful, and undervaluated brand.

Now get the book !

Thats a great guitar. Love the Blue. I have #cbooo310 in black. I was told by Fender that mine was one of the very last built. I bet the Filtertrons sound great with this body. The x160 has a very different acoustic tone compared with a gretsch. I have considered having a Filtertron in the bridge. TV can build one in a Dearmond housing.

I prefer my Gretsch Supertrons, but I haven't found a way to dial in my Gent to where I'm happy with it. I know TV Jones has got the FilterTron down cold. :D Great pups!

That's the same for you about having a great band. I really love the sounds you bring with the Motel Men, caveman.
I also wanna try to see you guys during one of the next Motel Men gigs.
And you're right concerning the Koch amps. After playing a few years over a Fender Twin Reverb silverface JBL, I tried out the Koch Twintone, way back in 1992.
I sold the Fender and bought the Koch. That amp hasn't failed once in the 16 years I own it!
That's what I call good stuff!!!
And about Mr. Broes : I'm gonna try to see him at "Rockin' around Turnhout" with Clark & the Aces. I saw Deke Dickerson and the Mean Devils plays there too that same night. BIG NIGHT!!!
And, what depends the seatsniffers. They are, without doubt, one of my favourite bands.
I got the first CD of them, "the Seatsniffers", in my CD-player at this moment. Together with, "let's burn down the cornfields", still one of the best they made!
But they didn't make a bad one untill now. And I don't expect they will in the future.
My favourite bands are : the 'sniffers (Belgium), the Hollisters, Jim Campilongo and the 10 Gallon cats, the Electric Kings (Belgium), Jesse Dayton, Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, the blasters, Riptones, th' legendary Shack Shakers, Hank III, Wayne Hancock and off course the originals like Presley, Cash, Lewis, Cochran, Vincent and Link Wray, etc...
And for the future : the Motel men, Reef Rider, Moonshine Reunion. All of them great bands from Belgium :!:
