I've used the search function looking for "warranty" and "registration" and "warranty registration," but didn't see the information I'm looking for. It might be there, but I've missed it.

Can someone tell me in detail what the registration card that came with my new Guild and that I'm mailing to Fender in Scottsdale AZ accomplishes.

I'd like to know in particular if that registration has anything to do with the Guild Warranty that came in a separate book with the guitar, so I guess I'm also asking exactly how the Guild Warranty works.

I'll be grateful for any information you can provide.

Thank you.

The Guild warranty is stated here: http://www.guildguitars.com/support/warranty/
The important thing: The "warranty applies only to the original retail purchaser when this instrument is purchased from an Authorized Guild Dealer and is subject to the limitations set forth herein."
It does not sound like it is necessary to register your guitar with FMIC, however "retain your original sales receipt, as it is your proof of purchase validating this limited warranty."
The "Register your Guild" Link on the Guild homepage doesn't even work... http://www.guildguitars.com/community/my/gear/
To double check this you could call them: http://www.guildguitars.com/support/

To add to Ralf's comments filling out and returning the card is not necessary. It just gives FMIC information that they can use to sell you things or information about you that they can sell. Retaining the original receipt is absolutely critical.

When I purchased a new Guild a couple years ago, the dealer registered me & my guitar with Guild. I didn't have to do anything.

That might be a necessary step nowadays, given that the warranty only applies to guitars purchased from an authorized Guild dealer.

The dealer that sold us the two NH Guilds in our household did not say anything about information he gave to Guild about the sale so I am assuming that the dealer registering the sale is a value added service, not a necessity, and probably irrelevant unless the original sales receipt is lost.
