Howdy
A friend and I did some riding around yesterday and thought it would be cool to hit a couple pawn shops while trying to figure out where we were gonna have lunch. Well... It ended up being dinner. Because we were having such a great time driving around without being in a hurry or stuck in traffic. You should try it. Especially on such a lovely day as yesterday. We had all the time in the world and the world seemed to have plenty of time for us.
We hit a pawn shop that we like to visit while we're passing through Arlington, and went straight to the guitars. There were a couple nice acoustics hanging up there as well as a few inexpensive electrics. But what remained invisible in that forest of shiny guitars was an old classical hanging right there in the middle of it all.
So I pulled it down and just kinda planned on picking out some notes or maybe play a familiar tune or something and the first note I hit, hit me back. I remember it was the G note. It was the most pronounced G note I've ever heard. The tone, the resonance... All the things that make you say Gee. My friend even noticed the glorious sound that old classical guitar made.
So tell me what you know about the MarkII. I totally fell in love with that sound and I am really thinking of buying it. But I don't know what a fair price would be.
The guy at the pawn shop knows it's a good one and he knows that Guild is a quality name. And he is really proud of that guitar.
The serial number is 43666, which puts it right there at the dawn of Guild getting weird with the serial numbers. He said that it was a '66 model and I have found no reason to not believe him. The guitar (in my humbler opinion) looks like it's in average condition- Like it was played quite a bit, but well taken care of. It's not new and shiny and it's surly not beat up or neglected. And it sounds sooo goood.
What would one pay for such an instrument? Is price something we talk about here? I don't wanna step out of line. I'm sure there are those who prefer not to talk about that kind of stuff, But those people are usually kinda weird.
Thanks.
Oh dang. Here's some pics:
