Just looking and seeing this for sale.. looks like an awesome Thunderbass. Somebody should snatch this up! I can't imagine you'd see a better price on this.

Good luck!

This complete package looks to be somewhat clean and original in the pictures. It is definately worth something if its not musty or nothing is glaringly wrong with it. The asking price is reasonable, but it is no fire sale. I think he started at $600. We have been emailing. I'm interested in it, as eluded to on my Thunderstar post, but we will see happens. its up for grabs for sure. looks nice

The subject amp is a Guild "Thunderbass 1," 50 watts, 2 x12...NOT "Quantum," 100 watts, 2x15, as was advertised. But it is confusing as they are all very similar and obscure to an extent. And the word "Quantum" really does not signify anything in particular, was more ussed in advertisments than anything. You could have a 100 watt Thunderbass that is not necassarily the Quantum, but I am not trying to start a whole thread about that. The seller did a good job with what he knew, printed out the schematics and such of what he could find from the internet without going too bezerk. Tubes are 8417's. it ultimately needs new speakers, but no longer needs a new home. a good score was too close to pass it up. Also looked up prices a little more and I do concurr actually for all Guild amps, seems prices are just all over the road. some are still cheap and others are into the "true vintage price point" now that we have arrived in 2013/2014. get em while u can! nothing like a Guild tube amp. be sure you know what you are buying though. some tubes are discontinued. Thanks to this forum and some "extended members" I am doing good with Guilds recently. time for a few others to get in on the action. They are out there!

The Quantum was definitely a different beast. It had 8417 output tubes and 530 volts on the plates for an actual 100 watts of clean power - basically all the power of a Fender twin. 8417's also utilized a much lower bias voltage than 6L6s. The regular Thunderbass used about 450 volts on the plates for the 6L6 version and about 400 volts for the 8417 version, both of which put out about 50 watts. Form my brief conversation with Aaron Newman, they were trying for 0% distortion at that wattage.

Nice score! You can bias that up from the circular test jack socket in the back. Use a multimeter set to dc. Adjust the bias pots until you read ".414 volts" on the meter. You are done.

Easy peasy!
