Hans, you are a wealth of information. I've read a number of your posts now and you are the Guild encyclopedia! Thanks buddy

Mick, I've got to agree with you on the suit, although I can't deny I had some pretty dodgy clothes in the 80's!

Which just begs the question..... Is it worth the divorce papers!!?

Hans is most definitely the man. As for dodgy outfits we had in the 80s, let's just keep that our little secret, shall we. No one need know. We're not going to talk about hairstyles either!

Now, as for your wife, all you have to do to convince her is tell her it's an extremely rare bird, and, he said knowingly, you'll never have to buy another guitar for the rest of your life! Works like a charm. And, if you only pull that one out every 5 years or so, you can use it again.

Cheers

Actually, I believe it should read 'F061 C' but maybe you could check the label the next time you're going to take a look.
There's even a possibility that there's even more info written on the label. I would think the complete model designation could be 'F061 C - A11'
Hi Hans, I had a second look at the better resolution pictures here:
http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk/admin/pa ... C_1988.jpg
I zoomed in and changed the brightness a bit and it shows "FC 61" afterwards maybe a "-" and a "C" and afterwards probably a "A11".
The guitar is listed as "GF60RC (FC61-C)" on the webpage, so the label might read "FC 61-C A11". But it is clearly a "FC 61" and not a "F061". So probably a Monday morning label...

So Scott, when you go there, take a camera and take a picture of the full label, showing everything that is written on it.

Back to GV today for another drool over GF60. The soundhole label is written model FC 61-C. NT and serial GF600151.
I'd post pics but couldn't work it out from Flickr on my iPad

bqm1fW

There is a small ding in the back but very minor, there is also a slight belly on the bottom half of the soundhole. Looks to me that the pick guard has disfigured it slightly and there are three cracks on the neck binding on three of the fret markers. Other than those minor cosmetic issues it looks and plays absolutely fantastic.

I couldn't let it go to someone else now could I! So we agreed on a price and I left him with a deposit while I gather the rest of the money (and buy myself some time to break the news to my wife)!

I feel a Guild Grin coming on......

Congrats on the impending purchase. You'll find that Guild Grin infectious; all your wife will need to do is see that and her concerns and objections will melt away!

Yeah, good luck with that,

Quite right John. My wife really doesnt give me a hard time. With all the insane things I do she is always understanding in the end

By the way, I'd love to see some pics of your gf60-rc. And does yours have any of the issues mine has suffered?

Hi Scott,
Sounds like a little shrinkage with the markers and the soundhole. My GF is 51 guitars younger than yours and it arrived with me on 7 July 1988 so I figure yours was later that year. The date should be stamped on the neck block. GF series was designed by George Gruhn and only lasted from 1987 to 1989 which is another reason why the model is rare. As yours is around 24 years old and looks to have been well used a few issues like yours are to be expected. The fact that it plays well is what really matters and it doesn't seem to have any major issues.
Information on Guilds is mainly from Han's book but only up to 1977. We are waiting for the next volume(or 2!), so does not include our model. There is a book by Ted Beesley published in a series by Bold Strummer called Guitar History and #5 is Guild Guitars. While this is far from perfect it does give a overview of Guild to 1995 and our model is mentioned. There is a web site westerlyguildguitars.com which gives a little info on Westerly made Guilds such as ours.
Hope this is of some help,
Steve. London showers.

Just a quick update of my pending purchase. The hard work is done. Telling my 'Totally understanding' wife, it's coming home with me! Acquiring the oversized rocking chair she has wanted for some time I think helped softened the blow! Got the cash in my pocket, so just need to find the time to get into town to fetch that baby home :D

I will certainly buy this book. I admire anyone who can put in the dedication to produce something they are passionate about to educate others. Well done Hans.

John I'd still love to see a pic of your one
