They sound heavenly :D AA Sitka spruce top, scalloped bracing, solid bookmatched rosewood back & sides...

They come up once in awhile on the 'bay and Craigslist, you may still be able to snag one for under $1,000. Not too many 'bursts though - not sure how many they made total. Happy hunting!

Blue,

Another recent D55 owner chirping in here. Gotta say that as much as "sound is king", I really do love the extra bling in my '98 D55 around the sound hole. And yes, the sound is amazing. I played it at my sister-in-laws this weekend, and she commented on how wonderful the sound was. No such notice for my Martin that has played there also.

When I did the minor action adjustment required upon it's arrival, I also plugged in some new ebony bridge pins that have mop dots with a little gold circle around the dot. I think it matches up nicely with the black pickguard. I'll keep a lookout for a burst for ya. A number of folks here were very helpful in locating a D55 for me.

I find if you really look hard enough, there is always something you can sell to fund a new guitar.  Smiling, but not kidding.

DV-52's have soundhole bling too - and older DV-52's have herringbone soundhole rosettes.

Well here's a non-burst, older version with herringbone rosette and satin finish. Besides a couple "modifications", this could be a great buy. Beautiful rosewood! :D

Somebody scratched the heck out of that top before the new pick guard was put on.

Look to the right of the bridge ... still visible.

I just spotted a used sunburst D55 at a shop in Ohio, Childers Music, about an hour from where I live. I don't have any details at all, just saw it on their website. Looks like from one of the photos that it has a round label on the inside, so it must be at least a Corona or Tacoma model. Phone #740-353-4141, www.childersmusic.com.

Again, I don't have any details, and I don't have any affiliation with them, never been to the place before, but it is a sunburst.
