I was in the mood for a Guild Starfire and searching CL I found this last winter.....

it was advertised a Starfire - and I believed that, do to my limited knowledge at the time

when I got it it was pretty beat up and even had a puncture hole in the side?? - what? - how does that happen?....broken nut too

tuners were old gold Bullseye grovers

electronics were messed up......

so I took some time to figure out how to attack this project.....especially the hole

.......so this a 1967 Capri CE100 de?

guitar has basically no real monetary value........so I figured try to do the repairs myself....

I cut out a section of the side and mended the damaged area w/ veneered wood from the existing area and some additional from a sheet of maple

sprayed some Stew Mac Amber / Laq on there wet sanded and repat....

I may still doe a complete re fin....but don't see the immediate need....

new tuners/jack/nut
polished frets etc.......guitar is an animal now

also added a G bigsby (removed stop nib - as I always do - so bar can twist 360 degrees

thank you

plays well leveled frets as well)
fells like a worn pair of jeans!

a bit heavier in weight than I expected

no other Guilds to compare to....but I like it......I have other Hollows (6120,6119, Sorrento etc).....and won't be shy to play this out....

Nice job! I wouldn't refin it myself…it looks battle-worn but sturdy & strong. A survivor. :)

Great Job! I love when guitars are non professionally repaired and brought back to be real players. I have a few that fall in that category, although none done as nicely as yours. I am sure that when I downsize my guitars the last ones to go, if ever, will be the ones I repaired, refinished or modified.

Good for you for saving the old guild, many would have parted it out. Very nice.
Thanks John

Second that, emphatically.
I was thinking about this thread last night when I was replacing a part on a '63 Huffy bike that my grampa refurbished (as opposed to restored) and gave to me back in '81.
I don't think I ever realized how much satisfaction he must have gotten from building functionality out of a bunch of parts, not all of which originally left the factory together, although he certainly passed on a "repair it if you can" philosophy to me.
I found myself actually digging the mojo it has now, rust coming up from under what's now a 30-year old repaint, and a little on the rims and a LOT on the handlebars, but I used to ride it every day (really need to get back to that) and it still gets weekend duty.
Gotta admit it also gave me a wee bit more sympathy for the "parts guys", 'cause they make it possible for us to keep our old gems running, but yes I still have a problem with parting out a complete functional instrument.
Back when I first joined here, reclamation of "lost souls" was one of the more popular subjects for discussion.
I'd like to think the only reason it's fallen off is because so many of 'em have been rescued.
Like they say in Australia, "good on ya mate!"

cool way to loot at it

I agree - I see there is a Gibson and Fender sellers on ebay who buy new guitars and part them out....sure it make sense......

but like they say - it's only original once (hence why - some things make functional and just use em)
thanks guys
