I was wondering if anybody can tell me what Guild acoustics Duff and Slash are playing in this video.

Duff's is the black one (0.29 secs in)
Slash's is the natural front with dark sides and back (0.23 secs in)

Hello rawpowerocks,

Not 100% sure because the guitars are never really in focus, but to me it looks like the black one is a GF-25 and the natural one is a JF-50R. There is a 3rd Guild in the video, which is the sunburst one and that looks like a JF-30.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hello, Hans... You've piqued my curiosity... What is a JF-50R? That's one I haven't heard about. Is that yet another name for the good old F-50R (maybe before they settled on JF-55)? If so, is there anything unique about it? Looks like a Gruhn-style headstock and it doesn't quite look to be as big as an F-50R...

If it's covered in your forthcoming volume 2 of the Guild book, just tell me to shut up and wait. :)

Hi Joan. Yup, I see it. Wow, how did you ever spot that ad?

it was a slow morning and I did a google search for "Guild JF-50R" and got that hit, then had to try and find it on the page. Of course it still doesn't tell us anything about the guitar. joan

Nice guitar..but don't both the JF-55 and F-50R have the larger bound headstock and the standard V inlays, along with gold Grovers?

Treem...so you called the seller? And the call went something like this...Hi, you don't know me, I'm from San Fernando Valley of the Shadow of Death and someone online who lives in South Carolina gave me a link to your guitar which is for sale in Urbana, IL...so what can you tell me about the guitar...

Actually when I called MA about the Guild I bought this summer it wasn't quite that bad but the seller did wonder why she was getting my call when she put it in Craig's List so she wouldn't have to hassel with shipping...

Gotta love technology, eh? joan

Anybody know blue book and how many made :?:

True dat...then again...

That guitar is not a JF-50R. That's a more recent (read post-Westerly ) F-50R.

we're thinking the same.....a GF50!

But the seller also stated that is a "JF50R", just like Hans.

Treem

I know it's tricky guys but once you see them next to each other, you will see the difference between a GF-50 and a JF-50R.

Oh I agree its definitely a F-50R. However, I always have difficulty visually identifying guitars between Westerly and Corona. What gives it away here?

Hello jazzmang,

If you're not holding the instrument in your hands, these would be the easiest clues:

Rosewood (not ebony) '1970-retro style' sorta-like bridge
No abalone ring around soundhole
Tortoise style pickguard
Square fingerboard end

Yes, I know! But it is a JF-50R.

How 'bout you call the seller and buy the guitar, but have it shipped to me instead! And then everything will really be alright!

:) :D

Ok now I'm confused. You said this picture was of a post-Westerly F-50R, right?

Westerly F-50Rs didn't have an abalone rosette, did they? This one doesn't either.

I do see what you're saying about the pickguard and fingerboard end shape.

Haha some of these models are too hard to keep up with! :p

OK, let's try to clear up the confusion here!

I was referring to this photo :

http://musik-butik.blogspot.com/2009/07/guild-jf50r.html

and my reaction was: That guitar is not a JF-50R. That's a more recent (read post-Westerly ) F-50R.

and you responded: Oh I agree its definitely a F-50R. However, I always have difficulty visually identifying guitars between Westerly and Corona. What gives it away here?

So you have problems seeing the difference between the guitar in that German link, which shows a post-Westerly F-50R and the same instrument from Westerly, which would be a JF-55. It sounds like you didn't realize that the JF-55 was renamed to F-50R after the Westerly plant closed.

So the specs. differences I gave were the differences between a Westerly JF-55 and a later F-50R. The specs. I gave had nothing to do with the JF-50R.

Am I making myself clear now?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
