Guild posted about the new GSR X-180 over on Facebook.
Here's the page from the Guild site.

I thought it interesting that they are marketing this as a "workingman's jazz guitar", and yet because it's part of the GSR limited edition series, they're charging 5 grand.

(Are they using a Romnian definition of working man? )

Couldn't find the body depth in the specs. Does the X prefix indicate a specific depth? I know the T stands for thin. Course I can't buy one cause I'm retired. :)

Could one of you lads be kind and fetch the X-180 on our list?
If you could make it quick, that would be most splendid.
We're both in a hurry to get back to work.

Here's a discussion about the previous X-180 model. Whether all the specs are the same or not... :?

This discussion also reminded me that it was called the Park Avenue X-180. And now it a "workingman's" guitar.
Compare to the equivalent Gibson and it is, when you get to the street price. It's a three ply spruce top, but it's lively for plywood.

I quickly checked page 48 in Hans book. It only shows that X stands for electric hollowbodies and was the very first model prefix that Guild ever used.
The GSR X-180 has probably also a 3" body depth like the previous X-180 Park Avenue had.

I wonder which '59 model they use, the spec only shows Seymour Duncan® '59.
The Bluesbird's from the late 90ties used the series '59 model SH-1N and SH-1B.

So are these more bodies built in Tacoma? Do the T-500 and the Starfire VI have the 3 ply spruce top? I could go broke buying GSR's.
Thanks John

John: The specs for the GSR Starfire VI show: "Body Top: Solid Spruce"
The specs for the GSR T-500 only show "Body Top: Spruce", so I assume that is laminated.
In the GSR X-180 specs they say "Body Top: Arched Laminated Spruce".

Mind that the GSR T-500 specs on the Guild webpage are not all correct, for instance they show : "Neck Material: 3-Piece Mahogany/Maple/Mahogany" which is definitely wrong, as it is a Maple neck (as Steve writes below: "Neck on the T-500 is maple/mahogany/maple/mahogany/maple, with 2 very thin hog strips."), not a Hog neck.

I asked at LTG III and was told they are the Seth Lover pickups, the same as in the GSR Starfire VI.

They indicated at LTG III that they were build prior to CT, but I'm not sure if Tacoma was specified. Others may know.

Neck on the T-500 is maple/mahogany/maple/mahogany/maple, with 2 very thin hog strips.

I would be interested to know how long the bodies were laying around. Where else can you buy a guitar that was allowed to stablize and age for years before being made into a finished guitar. Was it just the bodies that were stashed away or were the necks already on them? I knew these were unique guitars the moment I first played one. Thanks to all who had a hand in them. I would ask a hundred questions if I could but I am just that way. I gotta get out the starfire...later
Thanks John

The Guild folks at LTG weren't as interested in giving precise details as we were in hearing them. They specifically said that the current crop of electrics finish a project that was started by Donnie Wade and then suspended until recently. Figure out when he was active with Guild and you have a lower bound on a start date. They also said that at some point the white wood was stored at the Nashville custom shop. I don't think there was a clear statement concerning whether they were made in Corona, Tacoma or Nashville. My personal opinion is that they had nothing to do with Tacoma unless it was as a storage location and that they were assembled, including the neck, in Corona, Nashville or both. The picture discussed elsewhere from April 2012 and posted by a Canadian Guild dealer on the dealer's Facebook page shows instruments after they came out of storage, I was told. I was also told that there were some bodies that were just unusable, to include (alas) the M-85(s?).

But the Seth Lover's don't belong to the '59 series, or?
The spec for the GSR X-180 shows "SD '59 humbucker", the spec for the GSR Starfire VI shows "SD Seth Lover".
Isn't the Seth Lover the SH-55, whereas the '59 model is the SH-1 as it was used in the late 90ties Bluesbirds?
I am a bit confused by those numbers and specs, but obviously what you were told at LMGIII and what is written in the Guild specs on the website is different.

Bing has been wondering the same thing himself. We received a ship date on the 60th anniversary but we haven't heard anything about the 180. I'll check.
