I think so, dlay. I have 2 F-50Rs from 1967 and 1971, and both had the Grover Rotos (pat. pend.). That doesn't necessarily mean they carried over to your D-35, but the 1968 timeframe is right for Grovers. There was a switch to Schallers in the mid-70s at some point.

I'll bet Hans will jump in on this one to confirm/deny. I think there was some experimentation too with different tuners, depending on availability.

Hello dlay and Chazmo.

Yes, quite a bit of hardware changes around the end of the '60s but not so much on the D-35 around 1968. At that time the imported 3-on-a-plate jobs were pretty much standard, just like on the D-25. Grover RotoMatics would have been an upgrade and in that case the guitar would have had the 'Special' designation on the label after the model number.
If your guitar had the strip tuners originaly, you usually can see the imprints of the plates on the back of the headstock. Show us a photo of the back of the headstock!

Sincerely,

Hans, thanks for the info, I can see the imprints of the strip tuners now and there is no "special" after the sn. I will try to get pictures when I figure out how to send them.

You will need to download your images to a hosting site, ie, photobucket or other.
Then, simply click the image button here and paste your hosted image's link between the image brackets as indicated.......

Hans:

I'm commencing a fasting strike until I have a copy of your new book in my hands. Please hop on it because (at 63), I'm too young to die!
