I was browsing through Gruhn's inventory and came upon a Carlo Greco mandolin that he made while he was at Guild in '73. (Gruhn's site uses frames, so I can't post a direct link. Just search the inventory in the mandolin section.)

Here is the description:
EXF, asymmetrical 2-point body shape, carved spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, carved back, one of three, with letter from Greco, made while he was working at Guild, comes with DeArmond pickup (not isntalled), OHC

Beautiful, as we would expect from a Greco. I wonder if this was being considered by Guild?

Definitely prefer the Greco model. I bet if they had used that as their prototype, it would have scored.

The Guilds look to much like a mando trying to look like a guitar, and they are different animals.
