Wow, that was great! Really well done video and downright touching, especially if you were around while all of Glen's life was happening around us.

I'm a long-time fan and I thank you for posting the link.

Fan here too. ( Thanks Mom!) Very moving, Thanks walrus.
That goes right along with his version of Jackson Brown's "These Days'. It looks like he is preparing to move on allright, and doing so in good style. Nicely done. I particularly like his message at the end of the video.

Another huge Glen Campbell fan here. I grew up with Glen. And while it's very sad to think of what he's going through, I have a lot of respect for the way he's bringing his career to a close. Bless you, Glen. Thanks for all the amazing music...... :D

Thanks for posting the link.....

What great talent. I've enjoyed his music throught the years. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease!! Sad to see him fade away and I feel very sorry for him and his loved ones. The man has a lot of class & dignity.

My wife and I were fortunate to get tickets to Glen's show in Red Bank New Jersey on Memorial Day weekend. To say it was an amazing evening would be an understatement. His back up band includes three of his children, with daughter Ashley taking the lead on piano and banjo. She also takes the lead in taking care of Dad. The love she has for her father is very clear and very heartwarming.

There were a few awkward moments as you would expect with someone suffering from Alzheimers, but Ashley, her siblings and the others handled them with grace and love. Glen could still burn up the Strat and his voice was in fine shape given his age and illness.

Glen took a break at the halfway point, then came back and rocked the audience. There were very few dry eyes in the house that night, and we both felt privileged to be a part of such a memorable event and to say good by to someone who was such an important part of our lives.

Thanks for the "review" - I wanted badly to see him this Spring when he came to a theater in the town next to me. But I had just had surgery and was under orders to stay away from "crowds" if possible (lack of immune system, etc.). I'm still kicking myself I missed it.

Your great description of the emotions that night gives me an idea of what I missed...

It was at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ, a gem of a theater. And Red Bank is quite a cool town, very nice.

Enjoy!

I was never a huge fan, but I do like some of Glen's music and there's no denying his talent. It is really sad to see him go out this way, but I think he has chosen a good way to do it. What can you say? Alzheimer's is a horrible thing. :(

Elegy for Glen

We saw Glen Campbell last Friday at the TD Bank Arts Center in Washington Township, NJ.

Here's a clip (with apologies for the abysmal Droid Bionic video quality):

It was a loving and elegiac farewell from his fans. It was hard to keep dry eyes during the stumbles, but every once in a while, the old Glen peeked out, and laid out a really nice guitar solo, or a beautifully sung line.

He got pretty agitated during his last number, hollering offstage for his guitar, and the band wrapped it up pretty quick.

He was playing with three of his kids in the band (two sons and a daughter), and his music director of 35 years, T. J. Kuenster.

I first saw Glenn when I was about fifteen. This was all before he got famous as a solo act. He was the hottest studio guitarist in Los Angeles. He was playing behind the Kingston Trio at the Hungry i. It was the first time I heard bluegrass runs on a 12-string. He also played 6-string banjo on a couple of th trio's studio albums. That's why I have a 6-string banjo.

Later when he had his own tv show, I watched it regularly. (I was regular in those days.)

About fifteen years ago when his autobiography came out, I got him to autograph it. He looked very young for his age, and he still does.
