Gillian Welch and her partner, David Rawlings, in 2004.

I love this duo, roots deep back to Carter family old-timey kind of stuff, I think.

Sweet harmony - 2 voices become one.

Love Rawlings playing. I think it is an old Epiphone archtop he is using - whatever it is, he makes it sing for me.

They came here once to the Vancouver Folk Festival but I couldn't go. :blue:

It's a 1935 Epiphone Olympic. I had a '33 for a while, sold it right before the prices of those took off because of Rawlings' fame. Cool guitar!

Cool. I would probably like something of that nature, but prices have sky rocketed. I keep looking for one of The Loar L5 knock offs, but only the lower end models seem to make it here and almost none ever show up used. I have been told that if you can get a good one (one that won't have structural issues), it will be a very delightfully convincing replica of a vintage L5.

A similar Guild model would be the archtop A-50 (either "Granada" or "Corboba" model). I had a '63, it was not exactly the same as the Olympic, but it was "close", and a blast to play.

Really nice! They blend so well vocally and the gits, too.Someone feel free to correct me but I don't see any leads comin'out of those guitars so the mics apparently are providing the accoustic feed alone. That's pretty rare these days (or even 10 yrs ago).If there are any tech-heads here do you think they are sm-57s which would be pretty unbelievable or some super-expensive sdc?The vocal mics look like 58s but that's not so rare as they are still in common live use even today.I was real impressed at the natural tone of the guitars and it supports my no pickup prejudice where live sound is concerned.Sorry for the ramble, what a great show, thanks.

Also, they do a great cover of Radiohead's "Blackstar". I'm sure they do plenty of other great covers, as well.

The Jools Holland show sound is always expertly done. Hats off to the BBC.
