They are, but on her best day, Selena's not a patch on Linda Ronstadt. I guess you have to give her credit for even trying, though.

If you haven't seen "The Sound of My Voice", you really should. I think it might be the best biopic ever released, and it just made me love her even more.

I must confess, I have never heard Selena Gomez sing. Who knows if she will do her own singing or lip-sync to Ronstadts?

I just listened to Selena Gomez on YouTube. She sings in a different genre, so comparing her work to Ronstadt is, IMO, assuming that this is her only game. I, for one, would not presume to prejudge her, There have been many bio-pix with surprising performances, Renee Zellweger in "Judy," Joaquin Phoenix in "Walk the Line," Gary Busey in "The Buddy Holly Story," Sissy Spacek, come to mind, and I'm sure there are a lot of others. Did they sound like the original? No, but they did creditable performances. Let's just wait to criticize after the fact.

Ronstadt apparently personally approved Selena's selection and the two met to discuss the project fefore it was announced.

Linda Ronstadt is one of those singers that is in a class of one, I think. She could literally do it all, and did.
